Benny Hill was advertised, as funnier than Monty Python, by a UHF station that ran both shows!

I disagree. It wasn't as funny or imaginative.

Benny Hill WAS funnier than Monty Python. Not as imaginative, but definitely funnier.

Apples and oranges, I say. While both were goofy in that classic British style, Benny Hill was much more slapstick and vaudevillian.
And man do I miss local UHF programming.

I would want Python as my desert island British comedy dvd. For me, a little Benny Hill went a long way. It gets tired fast. Python I could watch for a long time.

I mean, you've got Bicycle Repair Man, The Dirty Fork, Mrs. Premise and Mrs. Conclusion, The Spanish Inquisition, etc...

Granted, with all sketch comedy shows it is usually hit or miss. Python had a bunch of duds, but their gems were so creative and silly.

And I miss public television (when they used to show better stuff), and UHF... mediocre reception and all.
I think the internet will become a place for broadcasting, like public access. If I had the tech know-how and the resources (financial, and equipment) I would start up an internet broadcast network that airs all kinds of awesome programming (without ads). I miss my youth when there were horror movie marathons, late night comedy shows, violent cartoons, etc. TV today is a wasteland of ads and reality nonsense.
