When you delete the book but can still see it, that's because you are looking at your archives, or 'cloud'. At the top of the screen, click 'device' and you will only see the books actually ON the fire. Go back to 'cloud' when you want to download more.

I have the same experience. I cringe when someone wants to look at my kindle fire because there are books I want to keep private. Amazon should come up with an update!

Hi D.L. - I have ES File Explorer, and I'd like to get more info on your process? Jon

I thought that the book was sent to the Cloud when it was deleted from the device but mine is not. What am I doing wrong?

How did you make a folder within your books folder. After going to the books folder on my fire, I see the by author, by recent and by title tabs. Then what do you do?

If you dont' mind keeping track of your series off your kindle try fictfact.com. It's great for keeping track of series and will even email you when a new book is due to be released. If your series isn't listed it allows you to contact them and I've had them add a couple of mine by the next day.

The inability to organize books is a major deficiency in the Kindle Fire. I have over 300 books and sorting by most recent or date purchased, just doesn't cut it. PLEASE FIX THIS SO THAT WE CAN ORGANIZE BY SUBJECT MATTER, LIKE BOOKS ON A SHELF,

I have played around with ES File Explorer and despite all the raving reviews, the support sucks. I'll not repeat my problem here, but I did write a review all about it for those interested. http://www.amazon.com/review/R1XDENBXIJ2VZX

There has just GOT to be a better way. We need to be able to organize them how we see fit.

Personally after really considering it, I'm all for tagging/labeling books rather than using a folder system. That makes for finding what you need even better. I love tags! Folders are too time consuming. For example I have a lot of cookbooks on mine, but not every cookbook is just a general cookbook. Some are for Chinese food or Mexican food or for desserts only and so forth. I could tag them how I see fit and then have a little tag search thingy that I can type in the tags I'm looking for. Of course we'd need a tag editor if we decide to make global changes, but there it is. That's what we need.

It's really not that hard to do. It's too bad there isn't a file tagging app out there. Or is there?

The inability to sort will keep me from upgrading to the Kindle Fire until it is fixed.

I organize my books by putting the ones I have read into cloud. When you hold down on the book it will say remove from device click on it, then hold down again and it will say remove from carousel click again and it will go into cloud. That way all new books can be on your device.Hope this helps.

Kindle Crazy, that's not a really good idea for most of us. The whole point to Kindle is that you can store ALL your books on one device and take them wherever you want. By removing them to the cloud only, you are defeating that purpose. Especially since there is no 3G. I have a bunch of cookbooks on mine, a bunch of fiction and non-fiction. Were I to do it your way I'd not be able to pull up a recipe from any said book.

That may work for you, but that's a not a fix for keeping them organized and won't work for most of us.

Amazon needs to fix this so we can organize our Kindle books like books on a shelf. This is a major downside to the Kindle.

Magnolia South, my post was for sorting old and new books, at least this way you can get your old out of the way. It wasn't for organizing, unfortunately you will have to keep your cook books on the device. That is why alot of people buy the 3G instead of kindle fire, no wifi and more organizing on it. I agree there are alot of kinks that need to be worked out on the fire and hopefully it will be soon!

Hi Ford
I saw someone mention Calibre on another site. Cannot find it again, but it seemed to let you organize your books. Has anyone you post to mentioned it? V

It would be nice if they at least created an app for the Fire to organize the books!

I just checked back in after giving up for a couple of months. I am sad to see that there still is not a solution. Why doesn't Amazon give us back the collections functionality? I am using my old Kindle to keep track of my books. That makes the Fire seem a bit like an over sized paperweight.

In reply to an earlier post on Apr 19, 2012 11:57:31 AM PDT
Well, now, I dunno. I can't watch movies or play angry birds or shop Amazon or send email or post on facebook or play my mp3s on a paperweight.

Yes, I agree. I have gone back to my original Kindle for reading (except in bed at night), but I love my Kindle Fire for all the things you mention.

I checked today, and I have over 1700 books for my Kindle Fire, and not being able to organize them by subject matter is SO frustrating. I don't use my Fire as much as I would if I could actually search my inventory efficiently.

I just received the Fire for a gift and I love it, but have a hard time understanding how they could leave out a sort or categorize by genre function. As long as I'm on a rant, I would be interested in using Prime (my boyfriend wants it just for the shipping) but you can only get one book a month, and books are all I'm interested in. Videos are great, but I'm a reader and 1 free book a month isn't enough incentive for my media preferences.

 nospin says:
Prime is primarily for shipping. The books and videos are perks added on within the past year.

If you do not think it is worth it to you, don't get it. If your boyfriend wants it and is willing to buy it for you, he could be added on to your account as a guest in order to get the free shipping.
