I just got my Fire. Everything installed perfectly and I was up and running within minutes. Then, it started acting funny and freezing up. I tried to shut it down and got to the "Would you like to Shut Down" screen, but it isn't responding to either the Shut Down or Cancel buttons. The clock continues to update in the background, but otherwise it won't do anything else! Any ideas???

Bought 2 fires and both frozen with kindle fire message. CS was not much help. He suggested that they will try to fix else I can take a refund. Didn't even try to say they will replace. This was for the kids but I think I will give them real iPad

"Kindle Fire" frozen on screen, right on start up. Tried multiple times to restart. Same result. What a great product! Go Amazon! You really knocked this one out of the park!

I know this is going to sound like the obvious here, but for anyone coming along seeing these freezing issues, make sure you give the Kindle enough time after the update before you panic and try to turn it off or manually reboot. Mine acted like it was frozen and the Kindle logo kept flashing like it was trying to reboot and I almost turned it off, but I just left it alone for about 5 minutes and it kicked right in eventually. I set up 2 tonight and both did the same thing and are running fine.

Mine is showing Kindle Fire and stuck right there after several reboots. Will take your advice and give it time to "update" but if doesn't recover its going back. I'd rather have a standard Android tablet. But thanks for the tip.

When I first turned mine on the screen appeared frozen on a blank page with Kindle on it....but when I looked carefully I could see the little bugger was flickering and I presume updating....I left it alone and it came on. I hope, for some of you, that might be what's going on....just give it a few minutes.

It turns on more quickly most of the time.

Same thing happened to me, was working fine when I got it yesterday. Was on Netflix adding movies and froze. I did just what you said to do, hold down button for 15 seconds and it worked! Thanks so much!!

I called Amazon tech today they said my problem was likely a charging issue. IWhen I first got it, I let charge for about an hour before i tried anything...never touched the screen. Then having seen it was already registered in my name since I have an Amazon account, I began trying things out and all behaved normally for about an hour. Status was battery was 95% charged! Unplugged,took into another room and noticed the words "Kindle Fire" center of screen. Went online saw to hold power button 20 seconds plus....unit shuts down but does not reboot. So, power button status light ...with words "Kindle Fire" center of screen. Wont come to life. Called tech, they say charge overnight ...I already done that all day....this is nonsense....I say its toast....anyone disagree?

Unboxed the Kindle, it turned on, connected to the network began DL'ing the software, everything seemed good. Returned to the Kindle and it was frozen on the "Kindle Fire" Screen and the light is red. Resetting has done nothing for me. I charged it overnight as well and still frozen on "Kindle Fire".

Very disappointing. If you're experiencing this, you're not alone. It doesn't appear Amazon knows a solution at this point.

Did any of you with the freezing problem bother to charge the device before you did anything? They typically don't arrive with a full charge.
