I accidently left my kindle charger at home and I am traveling. Do any other chargers work with the Kindle 2, without trying to order a new charger from amazon?

A possibility that's available at many Radio Shacks: the iGo charger. (You buy a wall or car charger and various tips to plug into your devices. Kindle 2 and DX take iGo tip No. 97.)

My boss told me that her Blackberry Storm charger also fits her Kindle 2. That info might be helpful when asking a salesperson who's never heard of the Kindle for assistance.

Check out the "how to charge your Kindle internationally" sticky that's listed first on the message boards. It talks about Amazons position on 3rd party chargers. I checked and my Blackberry and Canon camera cable both fit but I have used them to charge it yet.

Any micro USB charger will work. It's common for many cell phones and I use my cell phone charger often for charging my kindle, especially travelling. One charger covers my cell, hubby's cell and kindle it's great. I also have been known to charge my kindle in the car.

Amazon wont ship chargers to Australia; any kind of charger. Nor do they ship Covers, other than their own brand. Havent tried that myself, but it is reported on other forums.

The charger must be one that says MICRO USB. I don't know about other countries, but any local electronic store like radio shack or target or walmart will carry them. I have even seen them in the gas station mini mart.

I have had ordered from Amazon an M-Edge cover and a Gomadic charger and had them shipped to Australia without any problems. It seems to be pretty random about which covers you can order through Amazon for delivery to Australia. For example you can get the pink M-Edge prodigy but not the fuschia one.
I order this charger International Essential Kit for the Amazon Kindle International includes a Car and International Home Charger w/ TipExchange Technology and have found that it works for me. You can get a cheaper version without the car charger as well.

Just curious, what kind of power system does Australia use? Is it different than every other country? It's the only country I know of to which Amazon won't ship the usual charger plug.

Australia is on the top of my "someday I will go there" list. I'm sure I will have various gadgets with me I will want to charge.

most mirco-USB chargers will work withte kindle. Some won't if they don't supply enough juice. Check the Kindle's spc. I thnk the's charger sends 5V. If you have a charger that matches that, it should work with the Kindle.

Yes, Kindle uses a standard 5V Micro-USB charger.

If you do a search on "mini micro usb adapter", you should find many sites
that offer this item at less than $5. As long as the Mini USB charger specs are in the ballpark, this will allow you to use with micro USB devices.

The UK has gone to one charger fits all , Time we did this in the USA, make life so much easier.

One charger fits is coming to the US even if we do not want it. China has passed a one size fits all for all cell phones and some other devices manufactured or sold in China. China to too big a market to ignore plus so much is made there. And in China if you don't obey the government rules, they kill you. Lots of incentive. So the micro USB charger is now standard for also all new electronic devices.

Between cell phones, Kindle, Palm, GSP almost everything is now USB charged although some products use different mini B instead of micro B cables. You can buy both AC wall and 12V car USB chargers for under $2.50 with free shipping on Amazon. A dual USB port charger is about $4.00. Then a USB to micro B cable is under $2.00 with shipping. So I am buying a bunch of wall chargers and a car charger for each car. Then I am getting several cables to leave attached to the chargers. Now my Kindle 3, my Palm, my wife's cell, etc is recharged in any car, by my bed, in the den and in my office. Works for iPod if you have one. Cheap, easy and by leaving them plugged in, I don't lose them - which for me is normal. (My wife made me get a red instead of black Kindle cover so I could find my Kindle.) If you have both micro and mini USB requirements, get a dual port charger and one cable of each type at any location.

Dragi Raos says:
As others have posted, iGo and recent Blackberry chargers should do, but not every USB charger will. While the cable is plain vanilla Micro USB B (*not* Mini USB), the charger has to comply with OMTP standard (those for iPod Classic, for example, don't).

Carolyn -my friend ordered a charger with her K3 as it was offered for $4.99....She got it no problem. I didn't order one as it came up at $19.99 and I thought that was way too much. I simply plug my USB cable into my iPhone wall charger and it works fine.

Carmen,
If you are using an iPhone charger, I read many reports on the boards that you may hurt your unit. It drains the battery instead of charging. That may not be true of the way you have it set up, because the tip you put into the K3 is the right one, but you may leave the impression on this thread that if you can make an iPhone charger fit, it will be fine. Not so. One should never adapt an Apple charger to work for a Kindle unless they truly know what they are doing. It is not OMTP standard.

On the other hand, as Dragi reports and many of us have confirmed, later BlackBerry and LG chargers work fine, and fit, as they are microUSB and OMTP compliant. Search Amazon for a travel charger for Tour or Storm and you will see many under 5 dollars that are OEM so very good. I bought two and tossed one into the trunk and have one at work. I have used them and confirmed they work perfectly; they are nice backup. Here is one for $2.83: Blackberry Micro Travel Charger

In Europe I use a BlackBerry travel charger with slide-in adapters for the euro plugs. You do not need a transformer, just the correct plug type. It handles 220v. But it was convenient to have to already having the euro plug affixed. I did not even take the white Kindle cord/charger. The one I got was RIM BlackBerry Original International Home Travel Charger Adapter with Global...
