Mine were working just fine, then stopped. I bought a new pair of headphones because I assumed it was faulty headphones. But nope. I could hear the port crackle when I plugged them in but sound came from the speaker. I had to shut down and restart three times before they finally worked.

I have the same problem. Sound on one channel only. I can mess with it and make it work for awhile, but it never lasts. I have used several different phones and ear buds all of which work in every other device I own. It is definitely a design or manufacturing flaw. Unfortunately for me I never really used the headphones just the speakers until recently on a flight. My fire is just out of warranty , so I am on my own. I will contact customer service anyway and see what they say.

I am beginning to wonder where these kindles come from, guess I'll check it out. Took an hour to convince someone i could hardly understand that the charger port on my last one was faulty. Now the earphones jack on this new one doesn't work. Amazon sells these for cost, maybe they should up the quality and charge more.

Everyone one is for getting something it cost a lot of money!! If it was sold to consumers with earphone jack working then that is what should be happening!!end of story!

Only recently I tried to use the headphone on my kindle fire hd, and found that the Jack is not going into the hole all the way. I was so frustrated, and bought more headsets to try, but now I realise the fault is not with headphones but the way the kindle is built with a slanting or a crooked hole for the jack. So, this is one of the downsides of the kindle he. Even if the amazon agrees to replace the old one, I am sure you are going to experience the same problem, unless, they have built a new kindle fire to correct these issues. I wonder if the original models were tried with headphones to see if the holes are straight etc before marketing the product! Perhaps, we all should claim part of the money back from amazon for selling faulty goods.

The headphone jack problem is typical of the sort of defects encountered in chinese made products. Keep the comments coming.

Looks like I'm not the only one experiencing no sound with ear phones. Will amazon fix, how do I complain to them

I also purchased a Kindle HDX and returned it when the headphone jack did not work. I could only hear out of one side of my headphones. My headphones (both sets) work well on all of my other devices. The replacement Kindle had the same problem! I returned it. Mayday is a great feature but tech support had no solution but replacement I am disappointed at the poor quality of the headphone jack.

My headphones work fine on my Kindle. I do not think it is a design fault.

On headphones and earplugs there is a size of the bit you put in the device. Does anyone know the size of earplugs/headphone bit you need for the Kindle Fire HD?

Here is something that we found that made us feel real stupid and might fix some but not all of your problems. The solution is that there is no problem at all, but knowing that there are two different volumes going on here. If you are using speakers and it sounds fine the.n When you plug in headphones you hear nothing.... It's because you have it turned down all the way. Lol there are two different volumes, one for speakers one for headphones.

Maybe were extra dumb for getting stuck by this, bet we can't be the only ones. It really seemed like something was broken when all we had to do was... Turn the stupid thing up. Lol

For some unknown reason only certain headphones work. As mention cheap plug in headphone work. If you write headphones for kindle fire into Amazon search engine a few will be displayed

Mine did an update after I connected it to the internet. I had the same audio issues. After I rebooted, it worked. I think the update had a patch. When you plug in a pair of headphones, it will have its own volume you need to turn up.

My kindle fire worked fine until I had a very captive audience waiting on a dance recital. Playing my purchased music for the performance failed miserably as the headphone jack glitches in and out until absolute quiet filled the room. Of course I was instantly greeted by many eyes focused on the sound booth as I apologized for the equipment failure. So the kindle speaker even miked does not provide the quality of sound needed. I'm currently trying to get the issue fixed.

The mic isn't a factor. The other problem could just as easily be a bad wire or plug as the jack itself.

It's not the Kindle Fire HDX, it's how far the plug for the headphones get pushed in. I tried my headphones on my laptop to see if they were working correctly. They are. One thing I noticed when I plugged into the laptop jack was that the plug went all the way in and showed NO metal. It was fully seated. So, I went back to the Kindle and plugged the headphones in again. THIS time though, I pushed really hard on the plug and it took a bit of extra push, but the headphones seated fully and I now have stereo sounds on the Kindle. The solution is to make sure the plug is fully in the jack. Push HARD.

It could be that the earphone's sensitivity (impedance) requires a stronger signal than is produced by the Amazon Fire 7. In other words, cheap earphones won't work with the Fire 7.

If you plug it in slow and twist until you hear sound on one side and slowly push and twist until you get both sides playing sound and the headphones are completely in.

This flaw is annoying because row a while I had to use my broken apple ear pods and my iFrogz, generally any headset that isn't over ear is fine for the kindle.
