Buying kindle in another country

Hi, I'm a Canadian citizen spending a year abroad and I was thinking about buying a kindle here in Australia. I had a couple questions but couldn't find any answer after browsing for a long time. Basically, I want to know:

1) When I go back to Canada, will the kindle automatically give me access to the canadian kindle store?

2) When I go back to Canada, if I have access to the canadian store, will the prices change accordingly?

3) Will there be any extra fees associated with having an australian device?

Thank you all for your time.

Philippe - If you're having a Kindle shipped to Australia by Amazon or buying one there, it's not an Australian Kindle it's an international one.

1 - You'll need to migrate your account to Amazon.ca from Amazon.com, but you will have access to it. When you get to that point, come back and ask how to do that here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/forums/kindleqna/ref=cm_cd_rvt?ie=UTF8&cdForum=Fx1GLDPZMNR1X53

2 - Yes

3 - No

My understanding (as an Australian) is that if you buy a kindle here, you could register it to your Canadian kindle account. It's only if you ordered online that you'd have to do it through amazon.com rather than .ca. But even then, there's nothing to stop you deregistering it straight away and registering it to your .ca account, with an Australian residential address.

I can't speak for Canadian prices, never having compared them, but I can tell you that sometimes there are three different prices for the one book - for an Aussie billing+residential address, for an Aussie billing but US residential address, and for a US billing+residential address. I imagine that US/Canada would be the same, and that US/Canada/Australia might be even more complicated :-)

Phillipe, the answers to your questions are a bit complicated and depend on which Kindle you buy and where your Amazon account is set up. I strongly encourage you to talk with Kindle support before buying your Kindle and explain your situation. Don't rely on information on these forums. We're other users, not Amazon employees.
