They want to make sure they can supply the US market for the US holiday shopping season coming up before releasing it for international sales.

The Touch took 5 months after it was released before it was shipped internationally, I imagine it will be about the same for the Paperwhite.

Pretty simple. Amazon is targeting the larger markets first with the supply they have available. You will have to wait your turn.

It has not been released internationally yet just to a few select countries.

No it has not been released internationally.

Some of the regional stores have them for the region they service but international sales has not opened up yet for the Paperwhite.

Pushka says:
If it has been released to the UK and parts of Europe, which it has, then it has been released internationally. Unless you go by some kind of weird definition that international release means every country in the world. In which case none of the kindles have been released internationally as they are not available in every country. Can't have it both ways Jeff, much as you'd like to. Or maybe you consider UK and parts of Europe to be regions of the USA?

Bixillarla says:
The difference is that UK and Europe have a reginal Amazon website that they use to order from, the reginal websites have it in stock for thier region.

The Amazon.com website that services the rest of the countries have not released it for international sales yet so countries that don't have thier own Amazon store have to wait until the US market has been supplied.
