Does the new Kindle HD show subtitles when playing foreign films?

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 26, 2012 3:56:23 PM PDT
If the subtitles are part of the film, yes. If you mean closed captioning, then Prime videos do not have closed captioning.

Read this from the Kindle support page:

Scroll down to "Charging Kindle Outside the United States". It includes links for the various adapters needed depending on which country you are traveling to.

If my Kindle is connected to the USB port in my car to play an audio book, will the Kindle be getting power from the car or will it use battery power and run down? Thanks for any help I can get. Rick

R. D. Clark says:
It depends on the output power of the USB port and which Kindle you're talking about. A typical 500ma USB port can power an e-ink Kindle while it charges, but a Fire would charge slowly if at all.

I am going to purchase the kindle fire. Is there a monthly subcription charge for it.

R. D. Clark says:
Barbara, no, there is not. You must provide your own wifi, of course, and you can choose to subscribe to Amazon Prime which, while mainly a shipping-upgrade program, includes streaming videos and a monthly book loan as perks for subscribers. But it's not required.

Barabara,

The one occasion where you might find a monthly charge is if you buy the 4G version of the Fire HD 8.9". That one requires an AT&T data plan in order to utilize the 4G service. For the first year you can get a very small data plan for $50/year, but after that it will likely be more. You can check the AT&T web site for the available data plans and prices.

But none of the other Fire devices have a need for a monthly subscription as R. D. Clark mentions. They interact to the internet via WiFi.

Thanks for your response. Do you think it's possible it might not charge the Kindle Fire, but maintain whatever charge it had when it was first connected? Rick

if you have an old kindle, can the books on it be transferred to a new kindle fire?

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 17, 2012 6:29:33 AM PST
If you register the new one to the same Amazon account, you can download them to the new device. You don't transfer them from the old one, you transfer them from your account.

R. D. Clark says:
I think it will be a close call. Try it and see; it won't hurt anything. Otherwise, you might consider getting a 1.0ma charger to plug into your 12v outlet, if you have one.
