Does the Kindle Fire HD have turn page animations like the Ipad?

Shopper9013 - Not in books, but it does in magazines.

I've used a couple of e-reader apps that do have page turn animations and I find that mildly distracting. Not a big thing but I'm glad the Kindle doesn't. I want to focus on the text and I don't want some fancy animation pulling me out of it.

You must be crazy!!! I can sit here on my tablet and watch the page turn animations all day. Just hour and hours of page turn animations.....

Can you explain why do you consider page turn animation important?

Jazzy_Jeff says:
It is just so soothing to sit there and watch the animations. Ahhhhhhhh.......

And what about the sound?

Jazzy_Jeff says:
When you have page turn animations to look at everything else is just a distraction. The people who make meditation music has paid Amazon not to add page turn animations because it will kill their industry....

Yes, but that swishing or crackling sound of page turning... Ummm...

Even smartphones have page turning animations. I love my Fire, but it is lacking in so many ways - no page numbers, the inability to organize your books into collections. These last two features have been on Nook color devices for a long time.

B. Marks says:
One nice thing about Amazon is that when a lot of people complain something happens. There have been many complaints about collections so I'll be surprised if something doesn't happen with them in time.

As for page numbers, those are available on some books.

What I hate about my Fire is that it can't make a decent cup of coffee in the morning.

Are you sure that Nook has "real" page numbers, from a particular paper edition? It didn't use to.

But I still don't understand the appeal of page turn animations.

Apple was just awarded the patent for page turn animations so its very unlikely that Fires will ever have them.

J Carl says:
1) I find turning the page makes the book feel more like a book and less like an electronic device.
2) On the Kindle, without page turning, I often lose my place and have to search to find where I was. That is extremely frustrating. With the Apple reader, I never lose my place.

So you get annoyed with real books?

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 18, 2013, 5:58:14 PM PDT
Please explain why you'd lose your place because there isn't cartoon action?

Do you mean 'page turns' or do you mean 'bookmarks'?

If you mean book marks then Kindle Fire does have that.

I think everyone is talking about 'turning pages animation' and not literally bookmarking a page by turning it at the corner.

I really don't understand this whole 'I want animated page turns' thing. I am, however, really upset that my car doesn't come with a harness so my horses can pull it.

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 19, 2013, 4:29:23 AM PDT
Don't even think of that! That could be it. Page KEEPING, not page turning.

I really prefer the page turning on my iPhone. I wish it was on the Fire, but I am glad to know it is not there because I spent have been spending too much time searching for it. I prefer the animation - the feel of a paper book. I don't care if others don't like it - and wonder why others are disdainful of those who do?
That's why it is a choice after all.

I enjoy the page animation and wish my Kindle Fire HD 8.9 had it. I love the Kindle because it allows me to have so many books in one small device but I do miss the "feel" of reading a book. As silly as it sounds, the page animation adds a little bit to that lost feeling. As for those with such dismissive attitudes to page animation...get over it and while you're at it, get an attitude makeover. It amazes me how condescending someone can get over something such as another person perferring page animation. Variety is the spice of life and we all like different things. Perhaps Amazon could add it as an option.
