Welcome to the Swagbucks Thread

PLEASE READ this post as it explains the ins and outs of Swagbucks.

Ever wonder what SwagBucks is? Well, wonder no more.

SwagBucks is a website that allows you to collect points, what we call SB, for doing various tasks through the website. After collecting a certain amount of SB, you can trade them in to get prizes, both physical and virtual prizes that can be mailed to you or you can use on the web. Basically, you get free stuff for doing what you may already do when online, kinda. Now there are two ways to get SB: certain SB you can get every day because they are always there, while other SB are not always guaranteed because they can be there one day but not the next, or the SB that can be earned differs from one moment to the next.
Every day there are a guaranteed 164 SB that you can get if you play your cards right by doing the daily four, SBTV and the games.

There are the daily four SB: refreshing the tool bar you download into Firefox/IE/Chrome for 1 SB, doing the daily poll for 1 SB and flipping through the NOSO offers (you don't have to fill them in, just press skip) for 2 SBs. You can do these every day and they only take a few minutes to do.

Next, you can do SBTV. For every ten videos you watch you get three SB. What we do is move to the next video as soon as the meter moves up. You don't have to watch the whole video. You could if you want, but it would make it impossible to max out on SBTV (maxing out means you have done all that you can for the day). Most of us actually do other things while watching, so you don't have to be worried it will take over everything. You can only do this 50 times a day for 150 SB.

Then there are the games. For every two/three games you play, you get 2 SB. You can do this five times for a total of 10 SB. If you play two games with a time limit, usually a minute, then you will just get the SB. However, if you play a game that has no time limit, I have found that you need to play for at least three minutes for that game to count; otherwise, you'd have to play a third game. You can play just one game over and over if you'd like and still get the SB. Just play what you like or else it will become tedious.
These are the extra SB you can get to increase your daily earnings:

Using the Swagbucks search, you can get SB ranging from 7-50. More often than not 7-11 is the average SB you can earn. You can do this about three to four times a day, depending on the day. Sometimes it takes longer to get the SB or you have to do a new search term. And, sometimes you get the SB right away. Also, there may be a couple of times you have to put a code in to get the SB. Supposedly this is to stop people from using bots or whatever to do it for them. And, while you can do this daily, there is not guarantee of getting the same points. Some days you may get a lot, others you may barely get anything.

Next, in the special offers page, you can go to the various sub offers and do them if you want to or not for various SB. For example, in the RadiumOne special offers, there are often videos you can watch for 2 point each right now. These are the SB that are never the same from day to day because some offers will stay for a certain time and then disappear. So, you cannot count on them to be there. Some days you may get a lot of SB, but others you might get nothing.

Then, there is the Trusted Surveys. You do a survey and if you complete it, you get the SBs it said it is worth. We don't often get to complete surveys, so any time you do, it is extra SB, which makes it worth the hassle. However, you can get 5 SB a day for five incomplete surveys you do, but don't count on these every day since there you may not have five surveys that will count towards this.

Tasks are basically tasks you do to earn the SB for doing some inane things. Like the Fisher tasks which you look up websites over and over again. They're tedious, but can give you the extra SB you may need for whatever prize you want to get.

Codes are extra SB that SwagBucks puts out that we either have to hunt down or they tell us is in a specific location such as on Facebook, Twitter or the swidget (a little tool you can install in your browser). The SB here varies. They don't happen every day, however, when they do, someone will come and give an alert, so be on the lookout because they can happen at any time, even at 4 in the morning! Also, do NOT post the actual code because if you do and Swagbucks catches you, your Swag account can be deactivated. All you can do is warn people that there is a code, where it is and if need be, post a hint as to what the code is. Do NOT use sites that post the codes because, again, that could cause your account to be deleted by Swagbucks.

MegaBucks Fridays are days in which, supposedly, you can earn more SB for searches and such. It is just a day where extra SB will be more prominent than usual. I have yet gotten more SB on search on this day, but others have.

The Hourly Winner is when Swagbucks chooses you as the winner of 1000sbs for that hour, say, between 9-10. You have to claim these swagbucks within that time frame or else you do not get those points. The hourly winner changes every hour and it goes all day long, including at 2 in the morning. So you coule be chosen at any time fo the day, so checking the homepage every hour, when you can, is a good idea. We usually check the hourly winner and report back if anyone had won. For instance, on December 5, 2012, BethJ alerted me to the fact that I was the 10:00 pm winner. If she had not told me, I would have missed out on the 1000sbs.

Every month there is a daily goal set by Swagbucks, if you hit that daily goal, of, let's say 50 points, you get five bonus points for that day. There is a different goal every day that ranges from 40 - 150. If you hit the goal seven days straight, you get, in addition to those daily bonus points, 25 points; fourteen days gets you 100 points; 21 days gets you 200 points; and every day in the month (28, 30 or 31 days depending on the month) gets you 300 points. The in a row points and the daily points will be added to your account the following month, usually by the 5th. On average the daily point total comes to just above 200 points, so you will get a total bouns of over 500 points doing this.

Extra info on what to do can be found on this website:
Once you have your SB, here's what you can do:

Now, for every 450 SB you get, you can get one $5 Amazon Gift Card to be used any way you want. You can only get five of the same prize a month, so only 5 of the $5 AGCs. You can only get two prizes a day. But, you can get as many different prizes as you want, as long as you have the SB to get them. Most everyone here gets the 5 $5 AGC a month and then save the extra towards a $50 AGC (5,900 SB) since the $25 (3,150 SB) is just not worth the SB since 5 $5 AGC are 2,250 SB.

Note: until the end of 2012, all gift cards are on sale at the same price (except the $5 AGC which is still 450sb). $5 = 500sb, $10 = 1000sb, $15 = 1500, $20 = 2000, $25 = 2500, $50 = 5000, $100 = 10,000 and so on. The prices will go back to the original prices on January 1, 2013. Also, a $15 AGC has been added. We are not sure if this is permanent or it will stay or if it stays what price it will be.

But this is a good way to get extra money for Kindle books, or anything else you'd want on Amazon. This is a virtual prize that appears on your account under My Gift Cards as a code you copy and input into Amazon to redeem the money. I've learned to keep the codes in a word document or to take a picture of the codes on SwagBucks since I share a Kindle account with my mom. After having my money disappear five times because my mom bought a book at three in the morning, I learned to only put the codes in once I knew what I was getting.

All right, there is now an Andriod App for SBTV that is available in the Amazon App Store, that you can do in addition to the SBTV on the web, for 50 SB a day. What I did was purchase it (it's free) on the computer through Amazon, then went to the app cloud on my Fire to download it. When it pressed it to download, it took me to the app page in the store on my Fire and I pressed intall and it downloaded. Easy as that. You can find it on the Fire, but it was easier to find on the website than the App Store.

However, I found the Amazon SBTV App to be not as good as the one from the Swagging 101 site (maybe that will change). Search for Swagbucks 101 on the Kindle Fire and it will show up. Look for the Kindle Fire button and it will tell you what to do to get the app. Since this is a 3rd party item, you have to allow 3rd party apps before you can download it and it would be a good idea to have some anti-virus software just in case. I use Dr. Web anitvirus which, so far, has worked pretty well. Now, sometimes the app freezes or gets stuck on a video or becomes slow. To fix this without needing to delete and redowload the app, go to the settings, go to applications, go to the SBTV app and clear the data and cache. This will reset the app to when you just downloaded it. When you go back to the app you will have to log back in, but it should work properly. If not, you may have to do this again or delete and redownload the app.

And, there is now an iPhone SBTV app! Go to iTunes to download it. It works pretty well since it auto moves onto a new video, although it does have a tendency to shut down. And I do like this one better than the Fire SBTV App. Just a note, the videos on the iPhone app are different than the ones for the Fire app. Now, this app also has frozen on me. I used to delete and redownload, but I found out that if you press the home button twice, quickly, a little popup menu appears. Find the SBTV app, press and hold it until it shakes and then press the minus button that appears. Press the home button again to get back to the main screen. Go into the app and it will be as if you just started the app. You won't have to log in again, though. I think this just clears the cache so the app does not remember where you were but keeps your login info.
Bonus points:
Birthday points. On your birthday, you will get an email from Swagbucks with a link that will get you fifty bonus points because it is your birthday.

Singles, dubs, trips, quads: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th (respectively) search wins in a day. The first win is a single, when a second win happens that is dubs, a third win is trips and a fourth win is quads. When we have a win, we come here to announce it to let others know that the gates are open, meaning, others might be able to win points for their searches.

App/mSBTV/SBTVm: the SBTV app which can be downloaded to an android or Apple device.

TS: Trusted Surveys

And, that's it.

My Gawd !! Look who it is, our Anna Beth !
FYI, I replied to your post to me in the other thread but I don't think you came back to read. Le Sigh
I did answer your question about my awol and tell you a little about it. I was off helping to plan my granddaughter's wedding, (remember that event) in June.
Everything turned out beautifully. She did most of the planning by herself and it was a great day. No pics yet, but when I get some I'll try to find a way to post them.

What's up with you. Where ya hangin' these days. ;) We miss you very much.
Hope the kiddies are all smart by now. :)

I did come back a few times to see if you replied, but I missed you. It's so good to see you, Molly.

How wonderful about your daughter's wedding. I'll look forward to seeing the pics.

I'm hanging out on Goodreads a lot, now. I started a Classics reading group with another poster from Amazon named Mayhem. If anyone is interested we're still taking members. We'll be making the group private, but if you want to join after that just let me know.

The name of the group is "The Dead Authors Society."

Hi, millerdj. Thank you so much. :)

I've been so busy with school and I have a blog now and the classics group that I haven't had time to swag much. It's good to talk to y'all again!

I'm happy to hear you are busy. I know you don't like to be idol.
Thanks for the invite to the reading group. Never know when I might take you up on it. Although as you know, I'm not much of a 'talker'. LOL
I know a reading group is something you will enjoy doing.

Did I say "daughter". I meant to say, "granddaughter". Remember me, your elder. ;)
If I can get some pics you'll be sure to see them. That's a promise.
I'll post here if I can get them and find a way to upload them or send them to you.

If you see Badger please tell her I miss her and wish her well.
I'm really happy to hear from you again. We had some good times. You, my friend, are missed !

Anna, Badger posted a note in July letting us know that a family member had been diagnosed with a medical condition and she and other family members would be helping that family member. She said all good wishes, thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

It goes without saying she has our good wishes, thoughts and prayers.
If you send her an email please let her know she is in our thoughts and we wish her and her family well.

(I don't have her address or I would have passed those thoughts on to her and let her know she is missed. Thank you, Anna) Barb

OT Safari and itunes -- Just need to add that whatever article I read that said itunes needs Safari may have been incorrect as well. I did a lot of goog -- I mean, swagging, trying to find out why my itunes store wouldn't load.

Maybe I'll resurrect my old laptop and see if I can still connect to itunes store with it.

I don't know about a connection between safari and iTunes-I think safari just comes along for the ride when you download itunes. Bonjour, however is required for iTunes to work properly. Wanna know how I know? I have this habit of going into the add/remove function and uninstalling things I don't recognize and I thought that one looked kinda "suspicious" I mean, "bonjour" Seriously? it's something a creepy French guy would say(think Pepe Lr Pew. After uninstalling, the next time I opened iTunes it crashed and told me it couldn't launch b'cuz bonjour was missing. I had to un/reinstall itunes for it to work but I really don't think there's anything symbiotic between iTunes and safari-isn't that a great word?I could be wrong-it's been known to happen with irritaring frequency nut I ran iTunes for years without having safari on my computer. In addition to bonjour, Quicktime is also required for it to work.
