We're excited to announce a new update to Kindle for Android that brings you access to thousands of children's books in full color as well as graphic novels and comic books on your Android phone and tablet. You can also now email personal documents to your "Send-to-Kindle" email address and the documents will be delivered to Kindle for Android and automatically archived in the Amazon Cloud where they will be available for re-download. Just like Kindle books, Whispersync automatically syncs your notes, highlights and last page read for personal documents. Kindle for Android is available for free from the Amazon Appstore for Android and Google Play.

But still no page turn. That makes this app feel so ghetto.

Don't worry. Once you get past 13 years of age, this sort of thing will stop being so important.

To clarify:

The Kindle app for Android doesn't have page turns like most other book reader apps and even Kindle on iOS and WebOS. This newest app still has horizontal scrolling instead of page turning.

It is a jarring and sub-optimal experience, more like reading a web page than a book.

Sorry, from all of the complaints online I incorrectly thought that was self-explanatory.

no offense, but no amount of "page turning" a flat cellphone screen is going to make me think I'm read a physical "book" instead of "web page".

Why do they not put a password for items for apps, movies, etc.?
Seems that would be something that would be an easy fix.

Any idea where an enterprising soul might find the apk for this update in order, say, to install it on a Kobo Vox?

How can we use google play on kindle fire?

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 24, 2012 6:14:06 AM PDT
Strokin says:
I don't believe you need google play on the fire because it has amazon shopping apps built in already. When you click the tabs for music, books, movies, or apps. It automaticly searches the amazon store. It even takes you to the free app a day, same as google play.

Thanks, Amazon!

I found this update to be a considerable enhancement.

I like that you can have more than one dictionary available for different languages, and switch the look-up easily from one to another.

I also like being able to search for my personal documents through the Personal Document Service and download them quickly. That's going to come in handy when traveling.

I'm confused? How does this work with the KF? Do I need to download the Kindle App for Android on my KF? Or are the updates automatically integrated into the KF reading app?

Tinker-bella says:
This is intended primarily for those who have other Android tablets and are using the Kindle Android app to read their Kindle material.

The google play store has more apps Han the amazon store, which is why one may want access to google play.

I use my Kindle at home, but at work I read on my Android phone. I'm really excited to be able to get my non-Amazon books onto my phone as easily as this. What a great upgrade Amazon, thanks!! Library books too!

Question: Any word as to whether the recently announced "new update to Kindle for Android" will install in the optional Android environment available in the 2.0 update for QNX on the Blackberry Playbook?

I'm hoping to get a Kindle Fire. What you do like about so far? This new ap sounds wonderful. I understand indie stores can use it.

J.L., just to be clear, this app doesn't have anything to do with the Kindle has it's own Kindle app.

May I suggest you start a new thread to ask? That way, people will see your question and you'll get a lot more responses. Look farther down on the page for a link that says

This is the coolest announcement I've read in a long time.

I do a lot of my reading on my phone, and now I can have all my non-Amazon books stored for downloading and synching. I have them on SugarSync, but that doesn't have the synching capability (not to mention the inconvenient way it has of not displaying whole file names).
