New Wave and the Art of Heroin Maintenance: Fires of 2001

Fires of 2001 is free today. It's an addiction-memoir-type of book that takes place, in part, on September 11th, 2001. It has illustrations from a Bulgarian / Armenian sculptor. Here's the description:

Told through the characters of New Wave and the Art of Heroin Maintenance and featuring photographs of the Side Effect Sculpture Series by Agop Gemdjian, this is the story of a girl from the Bronx who wants to be an artist, falls in with some suburban junkies from Jersey and loses her mind. And it's 2001... And one of the junkies in question is Sebastian Briglia, who uses the fires of that year, which include his apartment, to put in perspective all the chain reactions in his life, before and after 2001, that seem to have his good intentions close to their beginning and always end unspeakably... Where do they actually start?

Desert Island Bible Study (Desert Island Study Guides)

When the classic question in a conversation "What book would you bring to a desert island?" is asked, the Bible seems to be the number one answer. How do we read this collection of 66 books without outside information? How do we make the contents worshipful, relevant - even inspirational? That's where the approaches in this book come in. Desert Island Bible Study is a companion for other spiritual and theological study. It approaches Bible study as an invitation to be in relationship with God, to have a conversation.

Thanks to all for making this thread such a great resource. Happy New Year!

10 Things You Might Not Know About Nearly Everything: A collection of fascinating historical, scientific and cultural facts about people, places and things

For years, the Chicago Tribune's "10 Things You Might Not Know" column has been informing and entertaining readers on a diverse range of fascinating subjects. 10 Things You Might Not Know About Nearly Everything is a collection of the best of these columns, presented in a fun and easy-to-read format. This book gives readers well-researched, obscure facts on universal topics-including arts and culture, food and leisure, history, politics, science and technology, sports, holidays and religion, lifestyle, language, and more.

10 Things You Might Not Know About Nearly Everything contains a plethora of surprising trivia and pertinent tidbits on so many different areas that will appeal to everyone from history buffs to sports fans to foodies, with an especially riveting look into Chicago-area history and facts. For example, in Zion, Illinois it was once not only illegal to gamble, curse, and sell alcohol and tobacco, but also to whistle on Sundays, put on plays, eat pork or oysters, spit, or wear tan-colored shoes.

Some facts will make readers laugh and some will make jaws drop. This collection is a kaleidoscope of the absurd, the outrageous, and the sometimes-gruesome, making a highly entertaining mix of people, places, and things. 10 Things You Might Not Know About Nearly Everything will leave readers brighter, wittier, and curious to learn more about myriad worlds they never encountered before and will never forget.

The Well-Lived Laugh: Designing a Life that Keeps You Smiling

Ladies, a little perspective can change everything - and owning your own perspective (with a good dose of humor) is what The Well-Lived Laugh is all about.

The Well-Lived Laugh: Designing a Life that Keeps You Smiling offers a quirky look at life's crazy-making pressures - body image, relationships, social networking, the food police - and encouragement to develop your own unique perspective to help eliminate those pressures.

Through her hilarious observations, St. John-Gilbert will help you embrace the beauty in life that comes through each experience, whether planned or not.

Thank you for posting this - I was extravagant (for me) and got the audible narration by Tim Curry (It's Tim Curry! Can you tell I'm a RHPS fan?) for $2.99 because it's on sale (normally $15) and seemed like a really good thing to have. A Christmas Carol: A Signature Performance by Tim Curry

I'd also like to thank all those who post here, as I often don't have time to look through my (huge) email from daily free books and come here instead. A huge thank you for those who post and big New Year's hugs for all involved here.
