We share an account with our adult children and it works very well. We can read each others books. The kids just buy a gift card for the account periodically to cover the cost of the books they buy. This also shares the prime account.

Anotrher thing to consider. When you child gets old enough they may want to setup thier own account and will lose access to the books on your account.

If you want them to be able to take the books you purchase for them and later the ones they purchase on thier own when they get older then they will have to be on thier own account.

It is nice sharing a account but when they become a adult they may want to have thier own account.

@Latasha - Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the menu, then tap "Exit Freetime".

How do I get to the menu an out of free time?

you can set free time to where it requires the parent password to exit the app. Doing so will keep the wee one from seeing anything you don't want them to see.

Sorry. I bought her the Kindle Fire HD 8.9. I tried setting up free time to just load the appropriate books, but all my books in the cloud are still visible on her screen. This is our first Kindle, I use the Kindle app on my other devices. Trying to figure this out :)

It would help to know which Kindle you have.

How do I stop my books from showing on my child's Kindle, since the Kindle is registered to my account?

I'd say use your account for both, especially if you have prime. They've addressed most of the security concerns through parental controls. Kindle free time will allow you to control what books he has access to.

So I got a kindle fire HD for my 7 year old for Christmas. I'm confused as to whether its best to set up his own account or use mine with parental controls? If I set up his own account so he can have his own books, can I still use the parental controls?
