I'm guessing you can't download amazon prime movies to it though?

Wrong. Cloud storage does not do you any good if you don't have wireless access.

Beside the unlimited cloud storage, my 8.9" Kindle Fire holds several movies and several books enough for the on the road trip. You can then download new material on hotel WiFi. LJ

You get unlimited free cloud storage so you do not really need one. LJ

I'd hope she made her mind up sometime since she wrote that on "Dec 16, 2012"

Hello Michelle. I have just purchased 2 Kindle Fire HD 8's. There is a slot for the Micro SD Card on it. It is located at the top of the Kindle. They say you can store up to 36 full length movies, and over 1000 song for your music. We also got the Anti-glare for it. The Kindle HD 8 went for 149.00, the Micro SD Card went for 49.95, and the screen protector comes 2 per box with lifetime warranty for 12.95. Not too shabby, and great for the buck. We used to have the 7 inch Kindle Fire, but ran out of storage space. Lots and lots of freezing up times. If you should happen to get it? I think it is worth the buck. Enjoy. Sincerely, Chuck.

...even my phone has an SD slot. What mind-numbing dumb corporate strategies these must be. Yes, that will stop me, too.

I just bought 2 of the 7" Fire tablets (5th Generation). They have a slot for a MICRO SD up to 128 GB is what the box says. I don't have a mini SD to try and the best part was the price!!!

The new 2015 Fire HDs have the port; no previous model does.

This may have been true in Dec 2012, but I bought Acer Iconia in Feb 2014, with micro sd slot

If you mean the e-ink Kindles, no. The new HD Fires (not the 6") do have them.
