The books were all delivered, Claire. I'm still waiting on a picture. It was a very busy week for me. I think it was for the K teacher, too. We both have Curriculum Night at our respective schools on Tuesday. I will remind her about the picture on Monday. Thanks so much for your kindness and generosity! <3

Lenora, thanks for the updates. :-)

It looks like one book was delivered today and the rest will be delivered tomorrow. The others that were supposed to be delivered today were sent to the wrong UPS center by mistake. When the kindergarten teacher sends me the picture, I'll post an update and make the picture my profile picture. Have a great day, friends! :D

The K teacher texted me back. She had looked a while back but meant to do so Thursday or Friday again. As suspected, she's been crazy busy. She told me she will let me know tomorrow.

There are many situations when I feel that it would have been better if common sense had prevailed. No one asks us, though. 😂

Oh, I knew you weren't taking the report of the person having the emergency, but kind of hard for "normal proceedings" to occur in the midst of a medical emergency!!

Posted on Aug 20, 2017, 11:42:38 AM PDT
I guess I should have been more clear and said, took the plea of another defendant, not the guy having the seizure, if you thought that's what I meant.
Yeah, I thought it was pretty insensitive.
Actually, I thought it would have been more appropriate to recess court, but nobody asked me.

Lenora says:
Wow! That would seem like grounds for an appeal for the person whose case was being heard. That seems like a sad lack of empathy for the person with the medical emergency on the part of the judge. :O

I'm hoping I have a chance to view the partial eclipse visible from my location, though it's scheduled to occur at 10:16 and I'm supposed to report a hearing at 9:00, and I'm not sure that will be over by then. I don't know that court will recess for the eclipse. :(

One time, a defendant started having seizures, and the judge I was working with held up court for five minutes before he became impatient and restarted proceedings *while the firefighters and paramedics were working on him* -- it wasn't much fun trying to report a plea while emergency personnel were loudly asking, "Sir, can you tell me your name?! Sir, are you experiencing pain?!" and loading him onto a stretcher and removing him.

They also only grudgingly stop court for fire alarms and bomb threats (all false alarms, thankfully) but did so a little more willingly for the major earthquake we experienced a couple years ago. So, who knows if a solar eclipse will merit pausing court. lol

Ah, well, soon to be no longer a concern for me. :-) I'm heading down to the office today to start clearing out my stuff. I realized suddenly last night that there's only today and next weekend and then I won't have keys to the building by the following weekend. It's moments of realization like that that are surreal and yet bring home the reality that the Big Day is almost here!

Half of my class is being checked out early tomorrow so their parents can take them to view the eclipse. We're supposed to get a partial eclipse right in the middle of normal dismissal if it's not raining. I'm going to put the NASA feed on the smartboard for part of the afternoon. My partner and I have some fun interviewing/get to know you activities planned for the other half of students. :D The planetarium at the local state college is having a special eclipse viewing event. They have 5,000 pairs of eclipse glasses and special filters for the telescopes.

The definite favorite activity this week was the Drops on a Penny science experiment. :D The kids had a blast and we had fun discussing the variables that would cause the penny to hold more or less drops of water. The first unit of math is rather challenging. The kids get excited when they understand it.

Lenora, I wondered if that might be the case. I know it's been insanely busy on my end. So, I'll just keep checking back here. :-)

Glad to hear you're enjoying your new grade assignment, though not entirely surprised; you always seem to have a positive outlook! I hope you'll occasionally share 3rd grade stories with us. I liked hearing about the kindergarten class. None of my family or friends currently have little ones, so I'm not gettin' any from them. :-( (Though the little girl I babysat for over a decade, who's 30 now, is going to have her first child in January, so there's hope for the future lol.)

I texted her to remind her but haven't heard back. I have a feeling she's been as insanely busy as I have. I didn't leave work until 7:00 last night. Their school got a new assistant principal the other day as well as the new principal right before school started. I'll try texting her again.

Lenora, I haven't forgotten my promise, I've just been incredibly busy. (Only THREE WEEKS until retirement from full-time work!)

Were you able to get the info from the new kindergarten teacher regarding what books she wants? Let me know how you want me to handle this. It's fairly late on Friday night, so I'm feeling dense about suggestions/solutions, so any ideas you have would be helpful. :-)

I'll check back over the weekend to see if you've replied.

I texted with the kindergarten teacher and she was most excited and appreciative of your offer, Claire. She's going to look at the leftover books from last year and figure out what she needs of which book to make a class set to give the kids. :D She and I both say thank you for your extraordinary kindness and generosity!! <3

Congratulations on your soon to be retirement, Claire! :D

Lenora, I will take you up on that offer. August 18th is the "discretionary" middle-of-the-month payday (lol), so look for something then. It always reminds me of the happy days when my nephews were young and I was sending books galore!

Only 5 weeks, 3 days, 6 hours and 8 minutes (but who's counting? lol) before I retire from full-time work after 25 years at my current position -- yay!

Oh yes! :D Decidedly so!! I keep telling myself that change is good and I know it is. I had a lovely time planning with some of my new teammates this morning. I'm about to go to my old school to finish packing up what I'm taking. I know the new kindergarten teacher was SO excited to get all the Pete the Cat stuff! I gave her the extra books from last year. If you want to donate books down the road. I could have them delivered to her at my old school. I know she'd love to get them and would text me pictures. I'd be happy to post them or email them to you.
