Joe Cool says:
Haven't seen this anywhere - maybe it's just my unit? The speakers on my Fire pop and crackle frequently - when I change the volume. When I tap anything on the screen. When the volume is OFF and I tap the screen! Also, even at max volume, the sound is way too soft. Am I the only one experiencing this?

Mine does not do that. I would call CS to fine out if yours is defective.

no snap, crackle, or pop fact, watched a movie today to see how it would was great, even as I tried to "overload" our video drop...took about %15-%20 of battery life, sounded good on speakers with a little tendency for vocals to drop when they talked low...but then, jets have ruined my hearing...

Glad to see someone else experiencing this! I live in a dry environment, and noticed it last night while adjusting volume and brightness, and I was wondering if it was some type of static buildup as it sounded similar to the crackle I hear when other items with speakers get a little zap.

Thomas K. says:
I'm also getting a static popping noise. It occurs whenever a new sound is played after silence. About two seconds after a sound is finished, I'm guessing the speaker goes into some type of sleep mode, then when the next sound is played, I get a pop. If there is music playing, I'm fine, but when I'm playing a game (like Words With Friends) that makes a noise every time I touch, the pops drive me crazy!

Thomas, same thing for me. Not a huge deal but when the "pop" is louder than the sound playing it's a bit surprising.

Actually I'm pretty sure one of the speakers is broken. I only get sound out of one and its the other one that pops. I'll be contacting Amazon to exchange this unit

J. Casolo says:
Since the first time I streamed a song, my speakers, or maybe just one tends to pop just once as soon as I begin typing anything. If I stop typing, touch the screen, and then go back to typing it - the speaker will pop again. It seems to also happen when pausing for any length of time when typing.. software issue? The speakers sound ok otherwise. Are the speakers going to sleep and that pop comes from waking up? I have only had my fire for two days, and this is pretty annoying.

Only by turning offthe keyboard clicks does that lopping noise go away. Aldo the left side of my fire seems to ne getting lose. What's up with this thing? Two days old!

Now it seems my fire has completely died. Won't start, won't charge. Tried using the fire charger as well as PC. This stinks.

I'm experiencing the same. All I hear is cracking and popping when I stream video from prime, music from the cloud or even playing audiobooks. I really don't want to send it back because it works nicely otherwise. Could this be a problem fixed by an update? I get 20mbps wifi and my iPad and iPhone stream flawlessly. My wifi bars on my fire are also full... Very disappointed!

Wikiwords says:
I also get a loud popping noise with my Kindle Fire even with the sound turned off. I contacted Kindle support via live chat and was told that my unit is defective and I should exchange it. She further said that they had "not heard of this problem before". Yeah, right. I am annoyed in the extreme. I know it has a low price-point but the great price is no advantage if it is full of glitches.

Same issue with my kindle fire. First day of use, popping noises and minimal sound. Left speaker stopped working. Amazon Customer Service offered a replacement. Waiting on replacement and then have to ship my defective unit back.

I'm having issues too. Got this unit a week ago and the speakers were working fine until last night. Had a strange pop/crackle noise for just a moment during a Tv show, and since then the left speaker only produces a low muffled sound. Like the speakers blown. Its caused a reduction in volume that's really annoying. Guess I'm going to have to deal with the hassle of dealing with their phone tree, cs, a replacement :/

I called amazon last night about the defect with the speakers. The Indian CS department is frustrating, they put you on hold after every sentence exchanged to go ask their supervisor...finally they told me there is nothing that can be done because I bought it from Best Buy. Now I have to make a 45 minute drive to the craziest place during the Christmas season to wait in line, argue with some 17 year old, and they may not have any in stock. So basically I get no support on manufacturer defects from Amazon because I bought from Best Buy. I'm not happy.

Jackie, try calling Kindle CS again during regular business hours (west coast time). I think that Amazon will stand behind the product.

Jackie says:
I just ordered a new kindle from amazon, and since I'm still in my return winow ill return the broken one to Best Buy once the other arrives. This way they cant push me off onto someone else if I have any problems in the future. Though I'm questioning now which company would actually be less helpful in the future. Lets just hope the next Kindle doesn't self destruct!

No, I am too !! Not sure if this is a faulty device or a firmware issue think I may need to return it.

Hi Shannon,
I am also having an issue with a static sound on the Kindle Fire. What are the hours of operation for the Kindle Support line?

The sound on my kindle doesn't work at all. Is there an alternate volume control like on desk top computers?

Evgeny says:
The same problem for me: cracking time in the beginning of every new sound after the silence (when playing games or even adjusting the sound volume). Kindle Fire (Kindle Fire, Full Color 7" Multi-touch Display, Wi-Fi) is only one week old!
The support in Live Chat advised to reset the device to the factory defaults.
But I just don't want to erase all the data.
Did anyone try to reset the device? Did it help?
Thank you.

I have the exact same problem with the popping sound but it is most apparent in Words with Friends. Like others have said it as if the sound goes to sleep and wakes back up upon touching the screen. Its a bit annoying.
