I currently have another e-reader but am an Amazon Prime Member and am considering a Kindle. Would like some opinions on the Free Lending library from Amazon. Are most best-selling titles available? I am able to see a few of the selection from the website, but just a sample. Is there a place to see ALL the titles available so I can make my decision if it is worth it?

Mary, the KOLL is a nice perk of Prime, but by itself, it is not a reason to choose a Kindle, or join Prime. You can borrow 1 book per calendar month, so it's only 12 books per year. Amazon pays the publishers for each book that is borrowed, and since they are in the business of selling books, and not lending them, the limit is set at 1 per month.

Prime is first and foremost a shipping perk. It gives you free 2-day shipping on many items sold by Amazon. The KOLL and the free streaming videos are newish perks of Prime.

Most best-selling titles are not included in the lending library, but I've managed to find a good book to read every month since the KOLL started. ;-)

To see a full list, go to the Search box at the top of this page, select 'Kindle Store' from the drop-down menu, enter 'prime eligible' in the search box, and press Go. Now, select 'Kindle eBooks' from the list on the left. You can further filter by genre, rating, etc.

Here's a link to results -!133141011%2Cn%3A154606011&bbn=133141011&keywords=prime+eligible&ie=UTF8&qid=1335282373&rnid=133141011

This is actually called a Kindle Owner Lending Library which means you need an actual Kindle device to borrow the books. You cannot use an app on other devices.

Thanks, everyone! I wasn't aware of the 1 book per month rule, but certainly understand it. Really appreciate the link, as well! Think I will wait and not get a Kindle at the moment as long as my "other" device is working!

You can borrow one book a month on a paid Prime account and you have to own an actual Kindle.

There is a long list of books but you can only borrow one per calendar month.

If you have a Kindle (not an app) and it is registered to a paid Prime account (not a free student/mommy/guest account), then you can borrow one book per month from the Kindle Owners Lending Library.
