I can read my cloud book on my Mac but can't download the book to my kindle from the cloud. I purchased the book on my mac and uploaded it to the cloud. How do I down load it to my kindle?

You will have to go to your archive, select your Kindle, & have the book sent to the Kindle. Every book has DRM that is specifically keyed for the device you purchased it from, & the download is not interchangeable to another device registered on your account. So the book you purchased on the computer was either DRM'd for your K for Mac, or the Cloud, not sure which, but it must be redownloaded to your Kindle. I hope that makes sense.

I have the same problem. i got a book as a gift. I accepted it. It shows up in my Mac laptop but I cannot read it in my Kindle. I hate this "cloud" business. Why we have to have "cloud" to store books??? I just want to read. Why screw around with all this cloud business???

This has nothing to do with the cloud. If you download a Kindle book for one app or device, it is only readable on that app or device. Download to the Kindle (or download to pc for that Kindle, and transfer via usb) if you want to read the book on a Kindle. Likewise, if you want to read the book with the Kindle app, download for the app.

Geez Louise!! ... do you mean I have to purchase 3 versions just to read it on my Macbook Air, iPad or iPhone?? A purchase should be associated with an account, or the account with my Amazon cloud, so that each device has access to the cloud.

The way it's set up now, Amazon makes it almost impossible, if not prohibitively expensive, to read purchased books on the device at hand.

Michael, you've misunderstood completely.

If you buy a book from your iPad, it is stored in your Archive. If you want to read it on your iPhone, you simply register the iPhone Kindle app to the same account, and download the book from your Archive. You don't buy it again for each device.

my apologies ... but given this thread's implications, and the lack of information on the subject of how to share Kindle books amongst devices, what was I left with? ... Maybe, because I'm just trying Kindle out and have asked for a couple of samples without them showing up in the shared archive, the samples policy confused me(?)

Cheerios :o)

Michael, samples are not stored in your Archive.

Having purchased a book with my MBA, I cannot find the iPad's access to the archive ... is it the same as the "Cloud"??

Tried taking a book from the IPad2 to put on my PC. I couldnt' even get it to do anything except open up to the page I was reading. uploaded the program and the cloud reader to my pc and etc and still wouldn't get it to work. Won't let me do anything. So I have wasted time and energy. My only option is to buy the book so I can read it on my PC. Not happy. I will tell everyone I can not to get involved with the cloud reader. Too much hassle. Not worth the agrivation

@Pamela - What is it you're trying to do? Books you buy from Amazon are stored in your account. You can access them on any Kindle or Kindle reading app that is registered to your account, or on the Cloud Reader when you are logged into your account.

You do have to download books from your account to each device, though - you can't just copy a book from one device to another.

I am still trying to get the answer to the original question. How do I download books I have bought that are in my cloud reader onto my kindle touch. Do I need to use the USB port and where do I find the archieve and how do I download the book?

Ruthie, if you bought the books from Amazon and if your Touch is connected either wifi or 3G, and your Touch is registered on the same account as all your books are - then go to Manage Your Kindle page (put mouse over Your Account in upper right hand corner and click on Manage Yor Kindle).

Once there, you will find a list of your books. To the right of the title is an action button. When you put the mouse over the action button is Deliver to my ...

Click on that and choose your Kindle.

Then go to your Touch and sync. If the Touch is connected, the books will download.

EDIT - Here is a link to help you out - http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_k5org_archive?nodeId=200730030#archive
They are showing a slightly different way to do the same thing.

EDIT - Here is a link on how to register your Touch if you haven't done that - http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_200789150_register?nodeId=200789150#register
