I´m going to buy a Kindle in the States but I live in South America, am I going to have problems with this? Or does it work perfectly in another country?

Kindle? Sure. Fire? Not so much. To which device do you refer?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 15, 2012, 1:01:51 PM PST
Kindle Fire HD.

The Kindle Fire HD is not offered for sale to Columbia currently. About 90% of the functions are not going to work for you. You will not be able to purchase apps, games, music and movies.

I would suggest that if you want something similar, to look at an android tablet like the Nexus 7.

Yeah, no. You don't want to get one of those. The limitations aren't worth it.

In the $199-$299 price range, the Google Nexus 7 is pretty nice.

Hi, I live in Colombia, and would like to buy a Kindle. Was looking at the e-ink and paperwhite models, but I'm wondering if there's anything I should know. I keep seeing different prices for the same model , and references to ads or something of the sort.
Also, do you have any idea how much the duties would be for one of these items?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 15, 2012, 4:58:00 PM PST
Katana - The Special Offers Kindles are only available to US customers. they are slightly cheaper because they have ads on them. I don't think the Paperwhite is available to ship to you in Coloumbia yet.

Can you buy the kindle in any stores in Colombia? I am currently in Medellin (travelling from New Zealand and have lost my kindle during the trip) and I can't get one shipped as I am on the move too much. Thanks for your help.

Hey, T:
Oh my, sorry I didn't see this before and reply...
OK, as far as I know, Exito has at least one model of the Kindle for sale, I think it may be one of the Fires or a Paperwhite. (I live in Bogota, so I'm not familiar with stores/areas in Medellin. Exito is an Antioquia based chain, so I figure if Exito Bogota stocks Kindles, Exito Medillin must also. You might also want to try any technology malls in town (the one in Bogota also sells Kindles).
Hope this help as bit if you haven't gotten one yet.

Since the thread has been revived, it's important to note that Colombia does now have access to the Amazon App Store, along with a bunch of other countries since the international release in June. Check out the list of countries here:

does the kindle Fire work in Colombia to skype and use the internet once I download all the apps before taking it there? I planning to buy it as a gift to someone

CBRetriever says:
mine worked in France, the UK, the US, Ireland, Spain and Russia as long as i found a good wifi connection, so the same should be true ot Columbia. However, the person will not be able to get videos or music from Amazon as those are for US residents only. They will be able to get apps - do not buy the apps on your account unless the Fire is going to stay registered to your account, because the moment they deregister it and register it to their account, all the apps will vanish as will all other Amazon content. They can get apps from their own account from amazon.com
