Is there any antivirus software available for the Kindle Fire or do we need any for this device? I haven't seen any discussions on this topic.

I think if you search in the android app store you might find some apps that are anti-virus. From what I've read since the Fire came out it is mostly unnecessary. Apparently viruses rarely target android devices. I've had an android phone for almost two years and I've never had a problem with any virus type behavior. I don't have anything on my Fire either and I've had no problems with it.

Strictly speaking, Android devices don't get viruses which is code spread from device to device. It is possible to download malware apps, which typically will collect passwords and account numbers and transmit the info to criminals.

If you only download apps from a curated site, such as Amazon, your chances of picking up malware is slim. All a AV program will do is take up resources on your device and drain the battery quicker.

I am getting unusual Amazon e-mails that are phishing in my Kindle Fire. Do we need an Antivirus software?

Phishing emails are not viruses.

You would get those on any device that was using email. They have nothing to do with the Fire.
