B. Asch says:
In the top left corner I have 1 alert. When I click it tho its just a note that my one click amazon thing is enabled. It has no delete option, its just sitting there and the notification is annoying now. How do I get rid of it?

Mary says:
May not have delete but on the right may have clear all the first time you pull it down. Since you pulled it down the first probably will show up when you have another alert

Bufo Calvin says:
B., if that Clear All isn't working (and you know it's responding to your touch), two possibilities:

1. Power the Kindle Fire down and power it up again. Hold in the power button for a few seconds. You'll see a choice to shut it down or not. Leave it off for a minute or so, then push the power button and release it again...give it a minute to restart.

2. If that doesn't work, contact Kindle Customer Service:

http://www.amazon.com/kindlesupport

You'll see a

Contact Us

button on your right.

Barbara, tap the Settings Gear in your top right corner of the screen (you may need to tap the top of the screen to get it to appear).

The icon (little picture) on your far left will say "Unlocked". Tap that, and it changes to "Locked". Then, your Kindle Fire's orientation will stay the same as you rotate the device. Do the same thing to restore automatic orientation.

Have you downloaded the books to the device? You'll need an active WiFi signal to do so.

Bufo Calvin says:
Patricia, your password may require you to enter capital letters and certain characters you've selected. I haven't tried using Comcast e-mail on my Fire...are you able to tell it to show you the password so you can see if it matches what you enter on your computer

Happy, that sounds very frustrating. I find Kindle Customer Service very helpful...before you get to the point you have in the future, I'd check with them:

http://www.amazon.com/kindlesupport

You'll see a

Contact Us

button on your right.

I'd suggest you call them or have them call you...that may be the easiest. You don't need to go a day without figuring out why things aren't working on a Kindle.

I agree with Amelio....what you are describing might be happening if you haven't downloaded the books to the device.

When you click on

Books

and click on Cloud and then Device, do you see any books on the Device tab? That's where you open them to read them.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 12, 2011 11:25:27 AM PST
The book may still be in the cloud and you have to download it. If "device" is highlighted, go to cloud and download the book. Once downloaded it should all be there.

I have already downloaded a book to my Kindle Fire and sometimes when I try to open it, there is an exclamation point on the book and says i am not connected to wi-fi. I thought I didn't have to be connected just to read it. At other times, it will let me read it whether I have wi-fi or not -- but if that exclamation point is on there , the book won't even open. What's up?

@F. Sierra: Try performing a hard reset on your Kindle Fire. Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds (count them) and then release. After the device has completely turned off, press the power button to restart your Kindle Fire.

I am trying to get the Bookmark and Edit screen to come up by pressing the center of the screen. all that comes up is the small edit screen at the bottom which does not deal with highlighting and bookmarking.. The desired one came up once or twice earlier, but I never got to use it, and now it's not coming up. Nothing in the manual addresses this. I am very intuitive, but this one has me stumped.

If I try a hard reset will I lose my content?

Is there any way to "go to" a certain page in a book you have downloaded. I know how to use the bookmark, but what if I want to go to a page other than what I have bookmarked?

Dennis: Which Kindle do you have? They all have a Menu-Go To-Page function, have you tried that?

Dennis...if you have the book open, tap the screen. Then tap the Menu icon (looks like 3 horizontal lines), then you can select "Location" and type in the location number. The Fire doesn't have page numbers.

If the book has an active Table of Contents, you'll be able to select that as well.

I tried a hard reset, but nothing changed, how can I continue reading the book? This is re: kindle fire.

how do you get the adobe flash player to work on kindle fire

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 13, 2012 8:38:19 PM PST
@Patty: With the Amazon Silk web browser open, tap the menu icon at the bottom of the screen, then tap Settings. Tap the arrow next to Enable Flash and select your preferred behavior: "Always on," "On demand," or "Off."
