My screen is blank as well. My Kindle Fire has been working just fine up until now--battery was fine. Now it appears to be dead even though charged. I have had this for about two weeks now.

C. Scilley says:
Hold the power button in for a full 20 seconds. This will reboot the Fire.

Q says:
Susan,
At three mo? The Kindle Fire has only been out a month! If it's the K3:

Unplug it and slide and HOLD the power switch to the right for a full 30 sec. Watch a watch to be sure it's at least 20 sec.

Then let go. The Kindle should be blank for a few seconds and then flash and begin to reboot.

If it's the K Fire you have, then follow Carolyn's instructions.

Let us know how it went!

My Kindle fire will not start after holding the start button for 20 seconds. Now what.

Jerald - Make sure it's fully charged and not plugged in. Make sure it's the full 20 seconds (count them).

If it is fully charged, try 30 seconds.

All of y'all who have tried rebooting without effect need to contact Customer Service -----> Click on the big yellow Contact Us button on the right of the forum page. If your browser isn't showing you the Contact Us button, try another browser or use one of the Help links that are at the top and bottom of every Amazon page.

You will be asked some questions online to get to the actual Help contact area. Don't be concerned if your question isn't shown exactly. I've found it doesn't really matter what answers you give. Just pick something close (or not close) and you will be fine.

Your best bet is to use the Call Me feature. They call almost instantly and your account info is already brought up on their screen. Chat is also good. Email contact seems to be the least satisfactory because they can't troubleshoot with you in real time and because oftentimes you will receive a canned answer; so one on one contact solves problems more quickly, easily, and effectively.
