Christen, what steps are you doing to try to download them?

Congratulations on getting your Fire, by thew ay.

There isn't a cloud app (except for music on the fire) so I'm going to the cloud drive site through the fire, and trying to download a book from there. I saw a review on CNET that said to do that, but doesn't work for me. I will be uploading my books via PC I guess when I get home!

I think for books, you have to either email them to the Kindle's email address (if you want them stored on Amazon's servers), or you have to transfer them from your computer via a usb cable.

Ann is correct. There are several threads here regarding the inability to access the Cloud Drive services for personal documents via the Kindle Fire. You can use the SILK browser to get to the Cloud Drive but according to one poster, once there you can't download the files to your device. Dumb move on Amazon's part if you ask me. What good is the Cloud Drive if you can't sent/recieve items to your Kindle?

Stumped here too. No luck with either PDF's or video files from the Cloud to the Fire.

I agree! I guess it will be usb for me, but i am disappointed in that one fact....i have a massive library, and would like to use it on the Fire, but having toupload manually is kind of silly...

I delivered the books i wanted ahead of time to the cloud reader. Then i manage my kindle and can see all of my books. I believe you can just select actions; deliver to...., select your kindle and it should deliver it via whispernet. But then mine comes in the mail tomorrow- so i could be wrong.

I also bought the 20 gigabyte Cloud service, expecting to be able to use it to transfer non-DRM .mobi book files to the Fire in lieu of having an SD Card interface. So far, haven't found a way to do it, but the micro-USB cable from my monochrome Kindle works fine.

Ironically, Amazon keeps recommending that I buy an app to back up stuff to an SD card and a lot of the utilities in the Fire app store are for that purpose.

I expected the Fire to be more integrated with the Cloud than what I found when I opened the box and tried to use it. Maybe some day.

Meanwhile, save the $20 and buy the $3 micro-USB cable instead.

Since I always travel with a laptop computer anyway, it's no big deal to use that as off-line storage for the Fire, but better integration with Amazon's Cloud would have made it possible to leave the laptop at home once in a while. At least it's not a 27-pound Osborne 1!!!

When you connect to a USB port in your computer you should have a dialog pop with an option to open folders as a choice. I used this to copy all my Itunes over.

1. Connect Kindle Fire to USB on computer.
2. Open music folder on Kindle Fire
3. Open another folder on computer and navagate to Itunes music directory.
3. Select all in Itunes music directory and left click drag to Kindle Fire music directory.
4. Click copy.
5. When copy is complete disconnect Kindle Fire from computer.
6. Click Music on top menu.
7. Wait until all the music is found by the fire system.
8. Enjoy.

Worked for me.

kid80s says:
@J.C.Worthy: make sure you are logged-in to the amazon account your Kindle Fire is registered to before you buy your book. If you do this the book should automatically appear in your fire. If you want to be sure, use your Kindle Fire's store browser instead of the PC to buy the book.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about this but from what I understand you can only directly download books from cloud to fire that were purchased or rented through your amazon account. Books that were uploaded to cloud through your PC cannot be downloaded to fire. What I'm trying to figure out is if there's a way to upload books from fire to cloud. Maybe if the books were uploaded by fire first then they would be recognizable as content downloadable by fire. Of course even if this were to work, it would be much easier to just transfer the books to your fire from your PC via the USB cable. Feel free to comment on this. I'm just throwing ideas in the air here.

@kid80's..............From what I understand the cloud drive acts like a free virtual drive and should be able to use it as such. Kinda acting like a extended virtual kindle drive. If your correct about only being able to put files from store-bought amazon and accessing only through kindle fire, that is really bogus business on the side of Amazon. Do they expect us to buy hundreds of dollars of files to fill up 5gb to 100's gb's of cloud space.?? I emailed Tech support on this issue. The response was and I quote," You cant download files to your kindle fire if they were uploaded via a USB by PC, they can only be viewed from your PC, unquote" Talk about confusion, I get the feeling that they are trying to make some money out of this, but for whatever reason, it's not working. I love my kindle, but they need to get this straighten out or at least come out clean with it.

Is there a way to direct a book purchase to My new Kindle Fire. I have both my Kindle 3 and my Kindle Fire on my account and all is being sent to my older Kindle 3... I can read it on my Fire as long as I am connected via wi-fi, but lose it when I no longer am on wi-fi.
I can go to my account band handle this, but my question is How Do I do it AUTOMATICALLY??
