The Fire is tied to AT&T only. However, if you get a mobile hotspot from Verizon, you could use that for wifi. Or if you have a smart phone that can be a wifi hotspot, that would work too

PeepDittie says:
It's got an AT&T SIM card which can't be replaced, so yes, it's AT&T or no cellular.

Do we actually know this? I know there's no user accessible slot for the Sim, but that doesn't mean that it isn't merely hidden behind the case. If you can pop the back and replace the SIM, you could go to T-Mobile.

And if you do that you void the warranty, if that matters to you.

The ATT network is GSM - same as most of the international market - therefore, it's the cellular hardware inside the Kindle that limits it to a domestic GSM carrier... ATT or T-Mobile in the USA are the only GSM carriers.... and the only relationship is with ATT.

The original and early models were on the Sprint network, but Amazon changed to ATT when then came out with the International version.... simple reason - use GSM for both.

You can see the sim card on the top edge (left of the camera) on the KF HD 4G.

If you want to tear it apart to see if it will work be our guest. Kind of an expensive experiment. Using a WiFi hot spot would be so much easier.

shhhh. Don't bring facts in to this. The "pros" don't like that.

The simple fact is that until we have a tear down of the 4G LTE version, only Amazon knows if it's capable of accepting a T-mobile Sim Card. But then again, even if you can replace the SIM, there's no telling if Amazon put some code in to ensure only AT&T signals are accepted. Remember there IS a GPS chip in the 7" HD version that is disabled. Amazon may have wrote software to limit the SIM to only read AT&T chips. But being able to physically swap the Sims is a step in the right direction for consumer choice.

D.L.C says:
Not really. A $2 ifixit tool to pop the back will show you if the sim is removable or not. If it's not, just pop the cover back on and you're good to go.
