I want to buy a kindle for my 72 year old mom. She likes to read at night, preferably with only a light off the e-reader if possible. She also will be sitting outside on the beach so it can have no glare. Does anyone know which Kindle is best. I would like to buy the Fire, but I think there will be a glare on the beach.

You will want an e-ink Kindle (any but the Fire), but she will need to purchase a book light or use a lamp if she wants to read it at night. E-ink is not backlit.

The Kindles with e-ink screens are much easier to read in bight sunlight. Then you need to think about the Touch or the Keyboard model.

And with those, she just needs a small external light to read by.

Me, I got the Kindle Basic and it works great for me. I read in the park in direct sunlight at times. And, I have a couple of clip on book lights which I never use and a Petzl headlamp that I use often for reading, working inside my computer, and a host of other tasks.

Oh, I've also stockpiled 100 watt light bulbs for my lamps and light fixtures.

I have a Kindle Fire. What I want to know is which of the new ones is the best for both sunlight and night reading. I would have to transfer the ebooks form the Fire to this other one for vacations. And that would be for 2 weeks, unless I finish the book first.

I saw a comparison chart when the paperwhite came out. Why can't I find that chart now?

Artist says:
The only one currently being sold that has a front light and can be read in the sun is the Paperwhite. You don't transfer any books. You just register the new Kindle to the same Amazon account as your Fire, and all books will be available for download through the cloud. You can have the same books on both devices.

That was very helpful.
Thank you
