Apotheosis says:
Under "Experimental Features" for the Kindle Touch 3G, it states "WebKit-Based Browser: Kindle Touch 3G's experimental web browser is based on WebKit. It's easy to find the information you're looking for right from your Kindle Touch 3G. Experimental web browsing is available via Wi-Fi. "

The part that says "experimental web browsing is available via Wi-Fi" is confusing, and differs from the Kindle Keyboard 3G's "experimental web browsing is free" line. Does this mean that the Touch 3G does not support web browsing via 3G?

Thank you.

I found that too. Decide to keep my Kindle Keyboard now.

Good find. Disappointing reduction of usefulness for some users (myself included), but not very surprising... there has long been speculation that if future Kindles improved the web-surfing experience to be easier for more users, as a touchscreen interface would do, it would likely mean Amazon wouldn't want to foot the bill for the increased surfing.

There's another thread about this here. Consensus is that we're all worried there's no 3G web browsing. If that indeed turns out to be the case, I will be switching to the wifi only model.

Will point out one thing. I'm sure they're de-emphasizing and discouraging 3G web browsing, but for the last year, the K3 descriptions for each country where free 3G web browsing IS allowed always has this sentence without the word "also." Just a declaration it's available via WiFi.

(No 'only' word and no sentence it's not available via 3G.)

I just bought this a few days ago assuming the web browser would work with 3G like every other Kindle I have owned before. Now since it clearly doesn't I am going to try to return the touch and get a Kindle Keyboard with 3G. I feel pretty ripped off by Amazon right now.

Why? Because you assumed Amazon would continue to pay for you to go to Facebook and spend hours Googling? You can do those things for free using wi-fi. Why should Amazon continue to support your web habit?

How were you ripped off? The information is right there on the product page.

If you bought your Touch from Amazon, you have 30 days to return it for any reason. Click the 'Returns Are Easy' link at the bottom of any Amazon site page.

Ultima, sorry the Kindle isn't what you expected.

You won't have any trouble returning the Touch. Amazon has a generous thirty-day return policy. Here's how to do that:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200144510&#device

Since your Kindle is performing as advertised, I believe you'll be expected to pay the return postage. That should be a couple of dollars in the USA.

Since you didn't bother to read the product description, this was your fault, not Amazon's.

No company that offers a 3G capable device pays for the service. If you buy an iPad or Android Tablet with 3G, you need to buy a data plan as well. Amazon is pretty generous to allow us to use 3G for free to browse the Kindle store, download books, and access Wikipedia. Why do you think they owe us any more than that?
