I suggest looking at the reviews on the paperwhite product page. You'll see more responses.

I have one and love it.
Previously I had a Kindle Keyboard. Didn't really think I would care about the light but quickly started depending on it.

Lisa says:
We bought my mom a fire hd for christmas and i was thinking of getting her a used regular one for reading long periods because i frequently switch back when the light gets to me. But i think i might give her my old one and get myself a paperwhite. People are asking ridiculous prices for old kindles on ebay.

Just Peachy says:
You could get her the PW or if she doesn't need the light then look at the basic Kindle for $69.

J. Fleming says:
I'm considering buying a Paperwhite to use on a cruise to the carribbean, mainly so I can read in bright sunlight. Should I get the 3G version if I don't intend to add new books? Would there be other reasons for getting the 3G version? email?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 19, 2012, 8:33:09 AM PST
Just Peachy says:
You aren't going to be able to use it for email via 3G.
Also, not sure if the 3G will work in the Carribbean.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 19, 2012, 8:34:02 AM PST
J. Fleming, you cannot use the 3G on the Paperwhite for email. You can only access the Amazon Store and Wiki using 3G on that device. For other sites you would need a WiFi signal.

The 3G is for folks who don't have easy access to WiFi for downloading books.
