Q says:
In Silk (Web), tap the menu Icon in the center bottom. Then "Settings". There you can clear the cache and the history.

*****
If that fails to sort your problem, you can reset Silk. Warning: this procedure will erase your bookmarks, but it *will* reset Silk to factory defaults:
Upper-right Cog Wheel > more... (Settings) > Applications

Set the filter to "All Applications"

Clear Data

Clear Cache

That's it. Silk will be reset.

Go to Web, then to settings, then to clear cache and clear history.

That's where you're supposed to be able to do it, but it doesn't work. It's a bug.

Is Amazon going to fix this bug?

There's also another setting. Click the gear symbol on the home page. Go to MORE and then APPLICATIONS and find the browser application. Select it and there is a CLEAR DATA option.

This nukes the whole browser from orbit. You lose the history and all your bookmarks, but things then DO get removed from the carousel. You might have to shut down and restart the Kindle afterwards, too.

Similarly there's an app for the MP3 player which removes old albums you might have played. It's also an option under SETTINGS while you are in the music player.

I sat down and concertedly tried every which way to get rid of past web pages, past music, past books, and found a way to do them all one way or another. Sometimes getting rid of them had side effects (like losing my web bookmarks) which were even more unpleasant!

Q says:
Gordon & shadymacker,
Did either of you try resetting Silk itself (this is *not* by clearing the cache & history in Silk)?

The reset I mean is to put it back to factory defaults and purging Silk via:
* Cog Wheel (upper right) > More... > Applications
* Select "All Applications" in the filter in the drop-down box
* swipe down to "Browser" w/ the Amazon symbol next to it
* Clear Data
* Clear Cache

Clearing the data like this has fixed this problem for several people. Just clearing the cache & history from within Silk itself seems to not do it.

Just wondering, did you try this reset? I mentioned this reset above but you never commented on it. Only that clearing the cache & history didn't work for you.

All you have to do is go the the menu screen in the browser, go to history and then hit clear all

when I go to Setting with the intent to delete my Web browsing page, I only have the option to delete STORAGE and like you folks have commented on, it tells me by Clearing my Data 'Delete, all of the applications data will be deleted Permanently. This includes All files, settings, accounts, databasesa nd so on" This seems extreme, when all I wish to do is Clear Cache which is NOT highlighted and not an option...any ideas?

I've been able to delete the history, but how do I get rid of the previous links that I've used from showing up as being visited. A normal link is colored blue and a visited link is purple. On my Kindle Fire 1 I could shut it down, restart it, and the links (sites) were as if I never visited them.

I have Kindle Fire, but do not have the same options mentioned above. I have the gear, but no internet options. Any ideas on how I can clear my browsing history with resetting to factory default?

CBRetriever says:
open the web tab, open the various menus, and some where in there is the option to clear cache (it may be under options or settings on the left side menu, but that's on my 2012 HD)

There is no gear. There are three dots, and NOTHING on the list that comes up is anything close to "history"

Ok, on my HDX there are two menu options. Make sure you are on the WEB tab. On the upper right are three dots. that's not the one you want.

On the upper left there are four lines stacked on top of one another. that's the one. Choose history then at the top right. Clear All X

I just want to remove one link from my home page. Is this difficult? I'musing a Fire with Silk 45.1.102.2454.94.10.
