Mech says:
AS one of the other clients said--why are you fiixing things that aren't broken?? The change to turning wireless on and off is ridiculous--you are falling into the same trap as
Explorer--just irritating folks with unneeded changes--and software updates with no detailed explanation of what you have changed--also could use more detailed info on just how to use the things under Experimental--

Rae Keegan says:
Please give us back a simple Turn On or Turn Off Wireless on the menu. Elegant, quick and uber intuitive.

@Mech, @Rae--you're not talking to amazon when you post here, just to other users.

CBRetriever says:
and as I said earlier, it's not likely to change until the next update and that will likely bring something else to iritate you or someone else - there are people who still think DOS is the way to go

Denis Powell says:
Mech, when mine updated there was a message on the Home page detailing all the changes. Did you not read it?

Under "Experimental" I only get the Web Browser. What other things are you seeing?

U.R.Nuts says:
I never saw a message after mine updated. I received the update automatically pushed to me; I noticed it starting the update process right after I turned on the Kindle a about 10 days ago. If it wasn't for me looking at it at the time that the update started I wouldn't have even known it took place.

Of course I would have realized it once I couldn't find the "turn wireless off" button. :)

CBRetriever says:
I had to turn on wireless and sync and check for new items and the notice downloaded

Pageturner says:
The message was entitled Your Kindle is Updated. It reads:
The Amazon Kindle Team
P.S. Please do share your thoughts and comments with us. You can send them to the Kindle team at kindle-feedback@amazon.com-we'd very much love to hear what you think.

So everyone who does not like the change in wi-fi access, write to them at that address. I can't imagine there is anyone who DOES like it.

CBRetriever says:
well, there are a lot of us that aren't bothered by it - myself included

Q says:
I am (slightly) bothered by it. I can't see why they moved it unless it was to make it less accessible to children??

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 29, 2012, 9:31:55 AM PDT
That's my guess, too. So much for parental controls "not having any effect on anyone who doesn't want them".............

TravelingGal says:
It bothers me and I wrote to Kindle Feedback to inform them.

"nd as I said earlier, it's not likely to change until the next update and that will likely bring something else to iritate you or someone else - there are people who still think DOS is the way to go"

DOS IS the way to go if you want to get something done quickly or if you want to get at some of the more obscure windows configuration thingees. Is there a way to access the linux CLI below the Kindle user interface?

CBRetriever says:
I prefer Unix

and no, unless you root it from what I understand (I will not be doing that to mine as I don't want to void my warranty and I do want to continue being able to use it)

Moggy K says:
I did not get a message on my homepage after the update. I came here this morning to see if I could find out what the heck was up with 'airplane mode' and my wifi access options.

Posted on Jun 30, 2012, 4:37:04 AM PDT
CBRetriever says:
Menu - Settings - Airplane Mode = On = Wifi Off
and the reverse to turn wifi on

Linda Eckert says:
After the new update, the Change Font Option on the menu is disabled. Does anyone know how to get it activated?

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 30, 2012, 6:45:15 AM PDT
dskalzzz says:
Check through some different books. Mine still works fine unless the font is locked, but that's only on a small number of books.

TravelingGal says:
It should be available if you are actually reading - as opposed to on the main menu.

When I try to update my kindle, the file gets deleted and I have to try again. I've even reset my kindle to factory defaults and I got the same results...

CBRetriever says:
so, you have the basic kindle ($79 one) and you've verified that it doesn't already have Version 4.1.0 installed on it?

and you copied the file, not to the documents folder, but to the kindle itself?

and then went into the menu and did the update?

I'm guessing the file should disappear after the update has completed (usually it reboots once or twice during the process)

RV says:
I don't what to do...I contacted Kindle Cust. Serv. and they couldn't help...I hope none of this happens on the K.Fire, because I might get one in 2 weeks...

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 30, 2012, 2:47:01 PM PDT
Why are you so concerned? Is there something in this update that you need? Your Kindle will continue to work just fine without updating the software

Lowcountry says:
Have you checked to see if you are already up-to-date?
4.1.0 is the latest.
What version is your kindle showing?

Californian says:
If you're not already updated just leave wireless on and it will probably update itself soon. Mine did, and I was trying to be so careful to keep wireless off so it wouldn't...
