You have to be online to stream. You can download and play content without an internet connection.

No you don't have to stay on wi-fi, download your your music to your device, same with videos you buy. I don't know about renting. Yes you have to be on line to stream.

Thanks Murhpy, but what you do not tell Cherl, is how to load from Itunes to the Amazon Cloud.

I purchased a software called Tunebytes that removes the DRM from Itunes purchased software and allows me to usb it over to my kindle. Drag n drop works just fine loading it into the music library. I was especially happy to find out tho, amazon music is cheaper than Itunes and that downloads directly to the kindle. I purchased some music videos on itunes and had a heck of a time finding them in the kindle fire. I used Tunebytes to remove the drm, then after hours of beating myself on the head trying to figure out where they went (they werent showing on the kindle or in explorer)...I finally found that they are under APPS in the Gallery. Don't ask me why, but this is where they were. They play just fine and are there!

I just plugged my Kindle into the computers USB port then copied the music directory from my Itunes folder to the music directory on the Kindle Fire. Worked like a charm.

I have noticed the default when the cloud uploads your music is windows media player. You need to change that to wherever your music is, probably the iTunes directory.

Cyriacus, will music videos that I bought on i-tunes transfer to my Fire if I use the USB port?

Also... I have what was the Kindle 3 - can I use it's cord as a USB cord to transfer per the above? I also have the original Kindle if that cord will work. (I'm not computer-savy).

Thanks!

This is a stupid question but will my orignal itunes songs & videos still be available in my itunes library?

I'm going from a flight-less dinosaur ( a 2001 Dell Desktop) to the bird (a Toshiba laptop) to the jet-plane (a Christmas Kindle Fire). All I want to do is put my itunes music onto the Kindle. After reading everyone's VERY HELPFUL posts, I think I can get this done... Happy New Year!

The short answer is no, you cannot put IE on the Fire. It has it's own built in "Silk" browser. You can "sideload" browser apps from other Android devices (like a phone). I put the Dolphin HD browser on mine. However, I'd just like to point out that you don't need IE on the Fire to transfer music files to it... (if that's what you are trying to do).

How can I download a movie to the fire, so I can watch on an airplane? You are not aloud to do wifi for parts of the flight.

Pam, if you are uploading music to the cloud drive start here http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/?nodeId=200653250

Videos can be transferred via USB, http://www.amazon.com/kindletransfer . They will be available in the Gallery App of the Fire.

Maineiac, most likely, you can convert them within what ever program you use to listen to them now. Check the help files within that program, then go to http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/?nodeId=200653250

Yes, you can go into the itunes store and type in help. Then look for the section on removing the DRM. Costs .30 cents per song.
