I know there is nothing mature about the book cover but I'm sure some people would not want it showing up.

I really hate the Customer recommendations. My previous Kindle died, and I just got a new one and found this annoying banner. My previous Kindle did not have it. I paid the $15 to opt out of ads, thinking it would go away. But it didn't. What a rip off.

Swipe down from the top of the screen. More--->Applications--->Amazon Home Recommendations--->Hide

Now be happy.

There's really no need to accuse those of us who are irritated by this very large "advertising" banner at the bottom of our screen, of "thrashing and crying" like we are "two years old again". We paid not to have ads, and it can be re-named a "feature" but it's still trying to sell us something, so I call it advertising, and I don't like it either.

The best alternative for all of us who want it removed is to email kindle feedback (not sure of the address) and let Amazon know we don't like it. There's no support on this discussion group for our position.

Sounds like you don't enjoy opinions that don't agree with yours....

Oh, and, FYI, that post you responded to was a couple of months old.

You are talking about two different things. There are the ads on the lock screen; you can pay $15 to not get them. I don't know what you get instead, because I don't care if they are there. You only see them for a few seconds. Then there are the customer recommendations, which show up under the carousel while in portrait mode. You can remove those by following the directions I posted up above.

This feature has created a monster for me and turned "playing on Mom's new kindle" into s non-stop barrage of requests for me to buy more & more & more games. Now the kindle is a source of angst for me and my kids Give us the option to disable it!!!!

If you have the Kindle Fire HD and the latest firmware update you do have the option to disable that "feature".

yes, you can dump them. Go to settings, more, apps, amazon home recommendations, hide.
So, what is this about 15 bucks to get away from ads, is this the lock screen ads? How can I get rid of them?

CBRetriever says:
the 15 dollars is the discount applied to the purchase price of the kindle you bought - initially there was no choice except to buy a kindle with special offers, then Amazon relented and you could pay the difference between a kindle with special offers and one without (the 15 USD) to get rid of them.

you have to do it on your Manage Your Kindle (available through the Your Account menu) - Manage Your Devices page - there should be a column for special offers there

I just paid $15 to get rid of these. Please pass on our concerns.

no, you didn't, you paid to get rid of special offers - you can turn off the recommendations yourself

Folks if you go into your settings and hit applications then amazon home recommendations you can hide those annoying recommendations. Like many I was upset about them still being there after paying the $15 but am now ok knowing i can hide them. The thing that got me is the new edition kindles are for our young daughters and they could click on those recommendations and purchase those items. Problem fixed and the $15 per kindle is well worth the piece of mind that my account will not be charged more w/those ads being constantly up. Parental controls are set up for the rest...

Hate it hate it hate! I "share" my account with 7yr old grandson and Hubby. Needless to say, what's appropriate for one is seldom appropriate for the other ;) And neither one needs to "see" my bodice ripping or flesh eating covers .. Although grandson is SURE that What Zombies Fear must be the coolest game ever that I'm not sharing
