1) Do you seriously expect to give you unlimited free shipping for free? Of course you have to pay for Prime.
2) Amazon already loses money on Prime. Since Amazon has to pay the publisher for every book you borrow, allowing you to borrow more than one per month is a good business decision.
3) Amazon wants you to buy a Kindle, so it is limiting this program to owners of actual Kindles.

You can't watch HD Prime movies either unless its on a device like a Roku. Do you think Amazon is doing this from the kindness in their heart (Prime movies/Books) or so you buy products from them? Two Roku 2s and a Kindle later...

You can get 39,000 FREE Kindle books from the Gutenberg website. And you can do it by downloading it to your computer and transfer it via USB if you want. Same with the newer books on the manybooks.net site and from your local library. If you don't have wi-fi, there are many places you can access for free and you can manage your books and download them to your computer with the Kindle reader.

(A) You can download to a PC then move to a Kindle device. You don't need to do the downloading wirelessly, only the inital borrow. And they are very clear in the fact you have to do the initial borrow from an actual Kindle.

(B) It is one per month because they have to pay, in full, for each and every one you borrow.

(C) The Prime membership is for shipping and nothing else. The videos and Lending Library are extra perks added as marketing tools to try and increase the Prime Membership sales, and thus increase overall retail sales. That's what Prime is for.. to increase SALES.

This may be a stupid question, but how to search within those 5k+ titles for a specific book?

Thanks!! Exactly what I needed!

Amazon prime costs $79/yr. How do I receive Kindle free lending library without paying for other features I do not want?

You don't. Its part of Prime. Prime originally was upgraded 2nd day shipping. Then they added free streaming movies much later. The last thing added was the Kindle lending library. Its not a la carte.

yikes, I seem to get 265,000. Are there any other filters? Many of the Prime Eligible books have an associated cost. How do you filter these out?

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 2, 2013 7:20:48 PM PST
They all have "associated cost". You get to borrow them for free as a Prime Kindle owner. If you want to buy one, you can, just as non-Prime users do.

does not seem to work

Posted on Apr 8, 2013 12:49:35 PM PDT
If looks like the original method no longer works. They changed the functionality of the search so that if you don't enter anything in the box it will take you to the general store page instead of a search result. I have found a new method that does work in the same way as the old one..

Follow these steps to browse books that are in the Kindle lending Library on your PC.

1) When on the front page of Amazon take a look at the "Shop by Department" drop down list. Select "Books" in the drop down menu and then click on "Books" in the selections that come up.

2) Across the top of the bookstore there are a bunch of links. Things like New Releases and Text Books. The very first one is "Advanced Search". Click on that.

3) You are now in Amazons more powerful search tool, and it's already set to books. Leave everything alone. Don't put anything in any boxes and don't change any drop down except for format. Select "Kindle Edition" in the Format drop down list. Click on the "Search" button.

4) Now you have all ~2 Million Kindle books. Over on the left side of the screen are further filters. All the way near the bottom of the long list of filters is a check box for "Prime Eligable". Click on it.

5) There ya go. All 324,050 (as of the time/date of this post) Kindle books that are in the Prime Lending Library. You can now use the other options on the left side to further cut the list down by genre.

6) **Remember, they are only free when you borrow them using your Kindle. You can not borrow them using your PC. IF you try to get them using the PC you will buy them instead of borrow them.**

Just the money you save on expedited shipping on thousands of Amazon products (not just books) is WELL worth the $79/year if you purchase anything over the internet. I always check Amazon first!

I keep telling that to people but they don't buy everything online like I do. Been an Amazon customer since the 90s.

This no longer works! There's no prime link once you open the kindle ebooks category. Or am I doing something wrong?

They don't say $0.00 anymore, they just say Prime (read for free). And there are over 400,000 books.

Not sure what point there is to browse the free lending titles without a Prime membership whio you need to borrow them. Titles in it change too.
