Thanks Joan, I did look at that publication. The author reccomends the WiFi File Explorer Pro app but the reviews on it said it didn't have good security. There is so much to learn. I think the best way is to use the usb cable. I can email photos to my Kindle Fire but they just don't show up in that Gallery App. There must be some other viewer app. I'll have to look more.

Hi Anita,
If you are working from your home, you are using WiFi with a password most likely. This is most secure. The time to take to transfer files is minimal and while the program is on until you exit, you most likely will not be using it at an airport or public forum.

Connect your Fire to your computer via the USB cable. Navigate to your Pictures. Right click the ones you want and select the Send To option. When you click on that, the Kindle will be one of the places to which you can send the picture.

Hi Shannon,

How do you change the sorting of the items in the Kindle Fire Gallery App? I noticed that it is currently sorted Created Date/Time by default (I may be mistaken though). How do you sort it by the file name?

Is there any way to do this? Im also having this problem?

Before i would be able to see the parent folder of folders i created which held individual mp4 videos but now i just see the child folders i dont know if i corrupted something ive been playing a lot with renaming to try and sort the folders alphebetically or numerically, but nothing has worked.

Why are my images all out of order? Is there an app available for the Fire that allows the images to be sorted by their name (like any common sense program would allow)?

Does anyone have an app for the Fire that allows the images to be sorted by their name? The default gallery has all my images out of order and there is no way to organize it on the Fire.

I have the picassa tool app that lets you view all your web albums in the gallery sorted bust like the are in picasa. .

Oops that wasn't quite right. I forgot I u/l. Throw usher but they are in folders. Trying to check out app Woven. Seems like a good idea but haven't got it to work. . . Yet.

I've found a couple of cables (from old cameras, etc.) that work...

I saved photos from 3 emails and I was able to see them in Gallery. I then emailed myself another photo and saved it several times. Each time the save seemed to work but I can't see the latest photo in the Gallery just the first 3. The documentation is pretty bad. For example, where is MORE? I can't find it

I'm sorry Shannon, this still is not working for me. I tap the gallery ap from the device or cloud part on the kindle and it comes up there are no items in collection (of course, there isn't, :)) I haven't downloaded any. How do I do the the download? I tried dragging some pictures into the "sd file" (kindle was connected to pc) and it told me file was too big and the second time it said it was in use.

There are a couple image viewers in the Kindle App store, but they're pretty terrible, in my opinion. For people who want to be able to view pictures sorted by filename, I recommend using QuickPic. It's not available in the App store, but you can load it onto your Kindle Fire. Here are some basic instructions:

Easy Way:
1. In Settings, set "Allow Installation of Applications from Unknown Sources" to On.
2. Open up the web browser on your Kindle Fire and go to alensw.com
3. Tap on link to QuickPic_1.5.3.apk to download.
4. Tap on notifications, and tap on the file you just downloaded; you should get an option to install.
5. Tap install; you should be finished.

I originally sideloaded the app after looking up instructions on the internet, but I just realized the above way is much simpler. Updated instructions accordingly.

Two days ago my KindleFire was receiving images from the NYTimes. All I get now are black spaces instead of images. How do I resolve this to get color images back on the KindleFire?

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 12, 2012, 2:25:56 PM PST
Curious says:
Paul, Can you permanently delete those black, empty frames? I had the same type of phantom album appear (not from NYT) and no matter how I delete it, clear the cache, clear the data on my Fire that particular album that looks like what you've described keeps coming back after a short while.

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 12, 2012, 2:47:55 PM PST
My black empty frames are now totally white where the pictures from the paper should be. Front page ads from NYT however, are in full color.

I went to 'settings' on my kindles bottom bar and found that my 'images' setting was not tutred on. Once i did turn it on the images were back. I am a newbie with the kindle but willing to press any icon to see where t takes me. Thanks

I have an image that is in my gallery app, that I didn't add (and don't want) but I can't seem to permanently delete it. It keeps coming back

I am having the same issue. I have a gallery with 5 images that I did not save and have tried every possible way to delete them.

What I ended up doing is getting a mini USB to USB cable and hooking my Kindle up to my laptop and then going into the pictures folder and manually deleting it that way. Then I shut down my Kindle and restarted it and the pesky image was finally gone! whew, although it still has a number 1 where the pic was, at least the unwanted image is gone :)

This device is in serious need of a fix. The gallery does now work right. In fact it hard to import pics from email (web based) or even save from the web. It works sometimes and not others for me. The images only show up after powerdown and reboot.

Thank God I have my Ipad2, but I wanted this thing to be more than just a ebook reader

Nico, I gave up on the gallery a while back because of the bugs you mention and also because even when it is working right, photos do not show up in full screen (you can't get rid of the top and bottom toolbars).
Just a suggestion--you can put your photos on the web with either Picasa or SkyDrive, then view them on the Fire (in full screen) from Picasa with an app called "PicFolio" or on SkyDrive with an app called "SkyFolio". Both are excellent and available on the Amazon App Store.

Is there a way to change display photo in galery?

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 16, 2012, 9:27:50 PM PST
This drove me nuts too until I found that I could sort them by selecting the photos I want, copy them into a seperate folder to down load to the Kindle. I then right clicked on each photo and selected went into Properties, then Details. Highlight the date taken and change each photo to the same date. Then rename each photo with a # in the order you want it displayed. Then send the file to your Kindle and they will display in the order you want.

That's a neat solution!

Thomas, I do tend to put photos in a web gallery and view them from the Kindle Fire browser now that they gave us full-screen displays finally.
So I can use the default Silk browser or Dolphin to do that. I've not tried PicFolio or SkyDrive apps for that but will try them out.

There actually is an Amazon App store picture app that will show each photo full screen or at least in correct aspect ratio full-centered and not abnormally stretched to fill the screen. It's "Simple Picture Viewer," and it first shows you folders, with an image displayed for any folder having an image. It's especially helpful in case you downloaded a photo and don't know what folder it went into.

Then it shows each photo very quickly (loading time) and you can swipe to the next or previoius one. DOWNSIDE: You can't pinch-zoom with this one. But you can see them full. And it's free, with no ads that I've noticed.

I tried Fast Image something and the ads were TERRIBLE, never disappearing from the picture, so I can't stand that. I could pinch-zoom but it didn't go to the next picture.

On other devices (my Samsung phone and a larger tablet), I use QuickPic, which is just great and my favorite for now, and A. Nonymous above gives steps for getting QuickPic, via Amazon's allowing us to install apps from 'unknown sources.' Just make sure they're known, trusted app places. QuickPic does everything I want.
