Hey I don't have a comma on the keyboard and I think I used too. Didn't notice it was gone until I read this thread. Mary

And I agree with your point about not being informed or having the change explained prior to it happening. (At least I thought I made that point earlier, but on rereading my previous reply to you, I see I didn't make it clear. Sorry. I meant to.)

Anyway, we do agree that would be a "better" policy. I don't believe it would eliminate the I HATE the new layout posts, but it would, at least, give people a day or so to learn it was coming and cut down on the shock factor.

Amazon apparently does not agree. *Shrug* That's their prerogative and while I don't completely understand their possible reasons for this policy, I have no control over it, so I have just adapted to it.

I expect it to happen that way because it's been that way with every kindle update ever since the first generation of the kindle eink ereaders. But especially for "new to kindle" users, unaware that updates ALWAYS have happened this way. I can certainly see where suddenly losing your comma would be a bit of a shock. :-)

Hey the comma is still there...right above the letter Q.

I got a kindle fire about a week ago and I was trying to fill out an online form. There is no comma. Not above the letter Q or to the left or right. When you press the period button even though there are other symbols on it all I could get was a period. That's it. I tried everything possible and couldn't get a comma. Overall I like the kindle so far I just can't believe it doesn't come with basic punctation.

That's strange. When i press and hold the period button another little keyboard screen comes up with 2 rows and the comma is in the second row last one on the right and hit highligts in orange. So above the Q you only have 11 symbols there and not 12? Will be interested to see what the deal is. Mary

Good thing you don't believe the fire doesn't have basic punctuation because it most certainly does. Just curious. Did you read ANY of the posts in this very thread about commas and how to type them before you posted? Based on your words, (Oh, look! <-----Two commas!) my guess is no.

Every other fire whose user that has posted here, in this thread has commas. They may not like where or how to place a comma, but they have them.

If you're sure you don't, contact AKCS.

I completely agree! Somebody obviously needs to understand that just because one "can" make a particular User interface change does not mean that one *should* make that change. Making these types of UI changes willy-nilly is just a horrible idea.

There is no actual comma on my keyboard after the update. The "press this key for comma" indication is there, but when I cycle through, I have 2 periods and no comma

I have the same issue.

In another thread it was pointed out that the comma, along with additional punctuation, is at the top above the QWERTYUIOP row, in dark grey keys. I missed it for a week.

My druthers would have it as a cycle through with the period key, but it is available, albeit less conveniently than previously.

M. Iverson says:
This happened to me, too. And the comma just disappeared from the keyboard today. It's bizarre. I am happy I am not losing my mind.

(But yeah, you can use the comma in the black autocorrect bar.)

Whoever approved the design of the comma behaviour should lose his programmer's credentials. Clicking the period indeed shows the extra line of symbols but it also inserts the period which must be deleted. Then the little menu will disappear. How do you spell kluge?

In reply to an earlier post on Apr 27, 2012, 12:32:02 PM PDT
Actually, when you press the SPACE bar, the top section with additional punctuation appears. When you select a comma, it positions itself correctly but if you are used to typing and hit space after the comma, you now have 2 spaces.

I agree this solution, no matter what justifications it is given, is a kludge. Worse, it creates a proprietary keyboard layout that I have to use only on the Fire.

I'd much prefer the comma appears in the normal keys.

My comma is suddently gone, too. It WAS there, now it's not. Yes, I can get it from the top suggestions bar. But that isn't user-friendly and stinks.

I am so glad someone started this thread, after reading some of the posts,I have located the comma at last,at the top in the punctuation row, third from the left and can also get one by holding the period key as someone else said.so,now I can get a comma two ways, thanks to all who helped.

Me too glad i found this i thought it was weird the comma wasnt on my keyboard now at least i see it is on that top row. The period version after holding though doesnt make sense in terms of speed frequency of use.

Hi no comma on my kindle fire either! For instance as i type in this box the comma doesnot appear on my keyboard even when I press 123. It does appear as a suggestion but mostly after pressing space. If I want to insert a comma now√ it is not an option. Anybody knowxif there is a fix?

In reply to an earlier post on May 23, 2012, 6:59:15 AM PDT
Hold the period for a long second.

I came to this page because I couldn't find the comma... and I must admit that the way to get to the comma is clunky at best... doesn't make any sense to me that there are indeed multiple key boards.. this should be fixed!

Mom of Four says:
On yiur Kindle Fire soft keyboard, hold down the period (.) key and you will see a subset of keys with punctuations. You'll see a comma (,) in the lower righthand corner.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 1, 2012, 11:35:53 AM PDT
Just long-touch the period, and a comma will automatically pop into your text.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 3, 2012, 11:59:10 AM PDT
Frank, the comma on my Fire is found above the keyboard where you will see the pre-emptive text, which will appear after a word is typed. There are other punctuation choices as well.
