Oh, you're right. You can't clear the cache if you can't open the browser!
You don't open the browser to fix that. Instead you go to the Fire's setting *outside* of the browser. So ignore what I said above about 'Clear cache & history'.
Instead, just try the "Force Stop" steps above. I've edited the above to correct my mistake.
