You keep saying that it is a let down. I suggest that you actually READ all the literature on things you buy in the future and make sure it does what you want. There isn't any ereader right now with unlimited lending. You could always register your friends on your Amazon account so they can share your books that way.

ok one moment lending is too important to me and the next its not important enough... i can't change it... am i supposed to sit around constantly mad just because i can't lend... to be honest i was frustrated and just sent out the complaint on a whim... i've only kept writing because i'm bored at the moment and i do find it rather funny how riled up people get over others complaints... i mean really... it's kinda hilarious... but really in the end even if they ever change it it'll probably be forever from now and even if i boycotted ebooks well i'm just screwing myself over on that account... like cutting off your nose to spite your face... the end

You wouldn't lend the paperback to the people in Alaska so why should you be able to lend them a Kindle book?

In other words---you make it sound like you would be buying paperbacks so you could lend or give them away, instead of buying ebooks. But you wouldn't be doing that since they are a million miles away on a planet called Alaska. So just buy your ebooks and let them buy their own.

Or if they want to buy a kindle and put it on your account, you can share your books that way.

ok i'm actually lending to those in georgia... and if i could i would but i'd be paying money to lend in which case i would just buy them the book which i have done before... all i'm saying was that the idea of having an ebook was awesome because i could lend across distances which isn't easy to do with the actual paperbacks... and they do buy their own i buy my own and the world keeps turning... it's just that if they allow people to share at all why not allow them to share as they want to... just like the have to with regular books...

Posted on Aug 7, 2011, 2:39:50 PM PDT
I agree, that would be awesome. Those darn publishers!

Jazzy_Jeff says:
With regular books you have to give them the container that the words are in (the physical book). You can do the same with the Kindle. Just hand it over.

"Those darn publishers" for wanting to stay in business? I don't get why people think that books of any kind should be free. Or, at least, free outside of a library (for which people pay taxes, so library books aren't really "free" either).

but he doesnt want to do that, he wants to give them a copy to borrow,
he has stated that he could send them a paperback but then there is the shipping, he is simply whining

it's not really free when i'm buying it... did i say give me books for free... no i said if i'm buying it i want the rights to do what i please with it just like everything else i buy... i'm not going to go make copies and sale it to people... but lending it to a friend temporarily i don't see the problem...

RayGun, you should have noticed that I was not replying to your post, but to someone else's post.

You also have to understand that the licensing rights for e-books are different from the terms you agree to when purchasing a print book. The publishers (those who agree to lending, that is) have determined that a one-time loan per book is what they want to offer. If you ran a publishing company, I'm sure you would begin to "see the problem" when your sales dropped off because people were sharing only a few copies of a book rather than each individual buying a copy.

well that makes sense... and sorry but there have been others saying the same thing as you so it was really in reply to all of them... yeah ok i get it... as i might only share with one person others would abuse it and then everything would go down hill... i guess what made me mad was when i first got it i sent out a question about such and was told i could lend as many times as possible... and then once i got going and was trying to lend it turns out it was a lie...

oh well... although i do appreciate the very few of you that have actually given off any helpful remarks... the rest of you are just rude people waiting for someone to jump on because they want something different from you... and i believe i've gotten all i can out this discussion... bye

flipoid says:
But who was it who lied to you? Amazon? The publishers? Or did a friend just tell you that he/she knew you could lend a book more than once? If you're going to be upset, be upset with the person who lied.

I don't know how to blow a raspberry in text so I handed you one instead, in response to your reply to me, oh just never mind :)

RayGun I have something against the way you are saying retarded for I have a child that is severely mentally impaired. And let me tell you something---he KNOWS how to follow directions and understand things don't always go the way he wants. And if he is playing with something that doesn't do what he wants, he goes on to something else, he doesn't have a temper tantrum about it and hurt other people's feelings about it.

Paula says:
I understand why the publishers have such a restriction - it is way too easy for people to just grab any digital file they want, with no recompense to the creator - so I do "get" that. But, I think they could be at least a tiny bit more generous - at least let the buyer loan the book out twice, or maybe even three times - I think that would be more fair to buyers, yet still protect the publisher's/author's rights. But then, on the other hand, some people know how to remove the DRM from e-books, so then the publisher is screwed there anyway... I don't know that there is really anything that can be done to keep everyone happy.

Oh, you mean like: "Pthttttttttttttt!"? I thought that might be what you meant, but still not sure why you'd want to give me a raspberry. (-:

Yes flipoid, that's it! I didn't want to do it wrong and have it misinterpreted LOL. Well--you took my remark so seriously in your reply, I meant it a bit tongue-in-cheek! The darn publishers! So greedy!

I realize now that you meant the "darn publishers" thing as tongue-in-cheek. (-: But that 's not how it came across at first, which is why I said what I did.
