Geeks - Specialists

I'm sure I've posted this on the forum before, but not for some time and not here.

The difference between nerds and geeks?

Nerds have unusual (and passionate) interests.

Geeks have unusual skills...that nobody else wants to have. :)
My understanding is that originally, a geek act was a specialty act in a circus sideshow...like biting the heads off live chickens or eating glass. Audiences were amazed that someone could and would do it...but they didn't want to do it themselves.

The name got applied to software/hardware techies for the parallel. If you could make the spreadsheet do something, that was an unusual skill others could exploit, but didn't want to develop in themselves. :)

The geek term has expanded, of course, and there is a whole geek culture now. I'm a proud geek, however, I do get people who apologize for calling me that, because they still see it as an insult...which I never did.

Glenda, sounds great...but I couldn't do it without sleep!
