unwanted free dictionaries

How many people have received "free dictionaries" in their Kindle Library without ordering them? I have received several and when I went to delete them, it would not let me. I sent an email to Amazon regarding this issue as the dictionaries are from China, Japan, etc, asking them to get them out of my library. I got a lame email back from Amazon acting like they were doing me a favor by putting them in there for me and they still said I could not remove them, nor could they.

I am livid over this issue. I wrote them back and told them if they put them there, they can remove them and if they did not remove them, I would switch to Nook as I have a Mac that does either. Is anyone else angry about this?

Hi Debra,

Please don't get worked up about this. These are the foreign dictionaries and user guides which have been put in everyone's libraries - support documentation for the languages a Kindle can be set to use. You can think of them as part of the Kindle's operating system. They haven't been downloaded onto your Kindle, so they don't take up any of its memory. You can ignore them as though they aren't there at all.

Enjoy Barnes and Noble. They have superb customer service.

Hey Debra, sort by Books when using Manage Your Kindle, and you won't even see them.

There is no reason to be angry about it. They aren't taking up space on your Kindles, and they were free. Anyone with a Kindle that supports other languages gets them. There is a lot in the world to be angry about, but this just isn't one of them.

Do you complain to Microsoft about all of the fonts that come with Windows, and various programs?

Ignore them. They aren't hurting you.

I cannot believe you are in support of invading someone's space. Why would that be ok. In case you haven't figured out, when that begins on a small scale and is able to go thru, it begins happening on a larger scale. Amazon should respect our accounts and stay out of them. Maybe it would be nice for someone to put some books in your account that you don't like, like porn or Christianity or Eastern Religion, something your are really against, and you can't remove them. I think you would not be so happy.

Some of us, in fact, do have a clue. For all intents and purposes, they're part of the OS and Amazon even found a way to keep them from eating into your device capacity. Wow. Go volunteer your time to something that matters.

Don't know what it is, but Mac can do Nook and they have lots of books so if I have to switch I can.

Well that is ever so nice of them. And maybe they did you a favor, good for you! Glad you like them and hope you read them.

Hi Debra,

Kindles are shipped all over the world, and those Kindles are all the same model. It would be a very inefficient thing for Amazon to make a different Kindle to be shipped to Japan, another different Kindle for the U.S., another different one to France - you get the idea. With the documentation already in place, they need only to be set to the country they're being sent to.

Remember that they aren't on your Kindle at all. And as pointed out above, sort by "Books" in your library and you'll not even know they're there.

i believe you will be much happier with nook, since amazon chose to tell you the titles of some dictionaries that are available to you, if you choose to download them.

the impertinence!

enjoy your time over at b&n.

its wrong that I have that stupid email thing on my kindle that I don't want there. I should be able to delete it if I don't want to use it. I also shouldn't have to have Google Play store on my phone ...... I should be able to delete it too !!!
