R. Curran says:
About once a day my Fire HD freezes. That is, the screen is not responsive. The power button has no effect. Sometimes the screen slowly fades to black. This happens both reading books and the Wall Street Journal. After some period I sometimes get a message asking if I want to wait for the app or to close it.

Has anyone else seen this?

Thanks,
Dick

Do you have the 7.1.5 update? http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_navbox_200529680_kindlelhd?nodeId=201016350

Have you tried rebooting? With the Kindle charged and unplugged, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, release, then press power once again to restart.

If neither of those things help, you should contact support. Click the "Help" link at the top or bottom of any Amazon page, then press the "Contact Us" button.

I am having the same problem at level 8.1.5. What are the remedies?

Make sure some app isn't running in the background. Use an app killer, if necessary.

The freezes happen after a hard reset mostly noticed while using the web browser.

Have you cleared the cache and the history?

I have not tried that but I will.

If it's related to the browser, clearing the cache, history, and sometimes even the cookies is your first line of defense.

After clearing the cache, history and cookies, the browser appears to be working properly over the last several days.

Thanks for the guidance.

My screen has froze again - only seeing a black screen when I tap Web. How can I clear history, cache etc if I cannot get to the Web screens? Will appreciate any suggestions.

R. Parker says:
I think there is a memory leak in the browser. The more I use it the slower the device becomes and more frequent the freezing occurs. I had a similar problem with a browser in Windows a long time ago. When they fixed the memory leak in the browser the freezing went away.

If your WiFi isn't stable in terms of speed it exacerbates the problem.
