Success....

To laugh often and much,
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children,
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends,
To appreciate beauty,
To find the best in others,
To have left the world better, whether by an improved poppy, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul,
To have never lacked appreciation of Earth's beauty or failed to express it;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you lived.

This is to have succeeded.

The Thirteenth Unicorn (The Ben Alderman Series)
While spending the summer with their grandparents on a remote farm in South Carolina, Ben Alderman and his sister Casey uncover a hidden world of magic; a world their grandmother is secretly visiting. It is a world where elves and dwarves are locked in mortal combat against a witch who is trying to free the last surviving wizard from exile. The witch has been defeated once before but with the combined power of the wizard, no one will be able to stand against them. Much to Ben's dismay, he learns that he is the one foretold in the ancient elfin prophecies to bring about the downfall of the witch and save this exciting new world from destruction.

Thanks for the great start, Susan! :) I like the quote.

Sandy, the last 2 years, I've meant to focus on Christmas books in December. Somehow, it hasn't happened either year. I did read a few this year, but not what I expected. I'm impressed!

Hi Sally! :) I hope you're day is going well! I've eaten my toast and just getting caught up here. I'm finally reading The Book Thief NOT FREE, which has been on my TBR list for a long time. I'm at 50%. I saw a preview for the movie, which looked good. I don't know if I'll make it before it's gone from the theaters, though. I was given gift cards for a couple of different theaters. After chemo and hydration the last two days, it's going to be a day of resting and reading. I might get a load or two of laundry done.

Hey, everybody, been running around trying to get as much done on my time off as possible, as judging from emails, i will start the new year with some crazy due dates at work, no time for anything else. Prayers for those dealing with job cutbacks and layoffs, it is hard when you are used to being needed and even sought out, let alone worrying about income. Lenora, glad things are going as well as can be....Wendy, still admiring you and your persistence, been working with chiropractor and getting exercise going, remind myself often that if you can do it i need to just get off my padding and get moving....Donna, maybe compromise and split it in half, find a cheaper toy? Mine was easier, got a bonus, but it goes straight to my hsa account to fund next years prescriptions... got my blackeyed peas yesterday so ready for the new yearSandy, wow, impressive list...i will take a look tonight and clean out my kindle accordingly, i know i missed somebody, be assured i am sending good thoughts everybody's way...

Thanks for the thought provoking start.

LOB
From yesterday's thread...PT on my shoulder is going okay. Rotator cuff overuse from walking with walker and pushing self around in wheelchair. I keep putting off using ice packs, but need to start. Last PT this year was Dec 19 & first PT next year will be Jan 6. In the meantime, I'm stretching and using TENS machine.

I need to get cracking on the book discussion book. I'm starting to enjoy it.

Wishing all whatever kind of day you want. ;o) ♥

I hope everyone is having a good weekend. We are in the second of two days of near 40 degrees, so of course next week is back to single digit highs and way below zero lows. Most of this week, I have been helping my sister and brother-in-law move; they have been impressed with my ability to lift things...that walking program I've been on has helped, I guess! Now I am starting to panic about getting all my stuff packed for next week's move; I seem to have more than I did when I moved last May!

I am impressed with your list of Christmas books read, Sandy. I am also more of a night person, so your schedule sounds kind of normal to me! Teaching was difficult for me--waking up at 7 am--really??

My mother died eleven years ago today. It doesn't seem possible it has been that long. Those of you who have lost anyone know that the missing doesn't go away.

Just got back home after another busy day. It is so good having my oldest son here so we are rushing around seeing people and doing things!

Sandy, your reading list leaves me gasping! I really think that I've done great reading my 3 or four books this last month:)

Josie, good luck with your move next week. It's something I don't like doing. I hoard too much for moving to be easy! It's a good way of clearing out unwanted stuff though.

Lenora, I hope you are having a nice restful day. You are lucky to have such a good sister. I know I would hate to be without mine. She is my best friend!

RL is hectic at the moment, but things will settle down after the 3rd January and life will go back to it's old routine.

I hope everyone is having a good day.

Escape, A New Life - Romantic Suspense

After saving a drowning man during a savage storm, Abby wakes up in a tropical paradise in a fight for her life. She has no idea how she got there, and notices changes in herself that she cannot explain. Haunted by unsettling dreams of her past, she sets out to escape, joined by Eric, who finds himself in the same predicament. Standing in their way is a madman, and his band of willing followers, with a mind set on murdering their unwelcome visitors. An eccentric hermit who has been living there for years offers them refuge, but they must deny his generosity. Escape is their only option. Yet, they discover this deceptive paradise is harder to leave than they had ever imagined. One mystery leads to another, until their escape throws them into even greater danger as Abby's frightening past finally catches up with her. Her escape is only the beginning.

Karla and I are very close. We're only 2 1/2 years apart in age and have always been friends as well as sisters. We lived way out in the country, so really only had each other to play with when we were growing up. My other sister is 8 years younger than me and is very different. We rarely talk.

The weather today is so nice... It's 58* out and the sun is shinning...

I'm really not feeling all that bad just tired and have a bit of a cough...

Besides my reading I have watched all five seasons of Friday Night Lights this week...
It was pretty good, I had a couple of issues with it....
