I've transferred books from my Calibre library many times to my Kindle 2nd gen..But am unable to download to my husband's Kindle touch and my new Kindle Fire HD...What do I need to do that is different??

Mary, many of Amazon's books are DRM protected. In other words they will only work on the device that they were downloaded to. For other devices, you will have to go to Manage Your Kindle page and re-download or download from the Cloud/Archives on the device. I still use Calibre to find which book I want to read (a lot faster than the Manage Your Kindle page).

Books are coded for the device.
Assuming his kindles are on your account, go to https://amazon.com/myk, allow the page to fully load, and do a search for the title. When found, send to his devices.

They're drm'd to your kindle only.

Mary Priest says:
Thank you Nospin but my Calibre library is separate from my Amazon account. So my Calibre library is not viewable..I have downloaded several books to my old kindle but am unable to load them on my newest 2 Kindles....

Mary Priest says:
Thank you Vickie...So hopefully I'm understanding you, since I can download books from Calibre on my PC to my old Kindle, then I can put the cloud on my old kindle, then my new Kindle Fire HD and my husband's Kindle Touch will recognize these books??

Just Peachy says:
the link Nospin posted has nothing to do with Calibre. Every book you have purchased from Amazon is on that link. If you are trying to transfer books that you purchased from somewhere else, that's a different issue.

Have you tried emailing the book to your Kindle account?

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 22, 2013, 4:20:19 PM PST

According to Kovid Goyal, the creator of Calibre, Calibre cannot connect to a Fire HD on either Windows XP or Max OS. There is a way to connect wirelessly that he describes in the Calibre manual. I found it by Googling calibre kindle fire hd, clicking on the Mobilereads link "Kindle Fire HD and Calibre" and then following the link there to the correct page in the manual.

Hopefully this will help.

First, make sure Calibre is up to date.

Then go here:
http://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=166

They can get a bit technical for me at times, but it's the best source for Calibre information I have found.

ETA: and they have info for using it with the Kindles as well.
They should have the instructions Dawn mentioned above also.

On the Kindle forums I have encountered many people who keep their ebook libraries in Calibre. This encludes their Amazon purchases. So it stands to reason that there is a way to do what you wish. Good luck. Beware, however, that doing so may be a copyright violation when you share with another person, even a spouse.

I couldn't transfer to my daughters new fire after xmas either, but could my son's old fire, What my problem was, I hadn't updated in a while and I needed to update for Calibre to recognize the new devices. I bet that is your problem too. You probably haven't updated since those devices came out.

Have you tried Customer Service? They are very helpful on the telephone.
