has anyone else experienced this?

when I plug the kindle in the battery is green, but every ten seconds or so it will turn red for a few seconds. I look under "device" it says "charging" but when the battery turns red this disappears.

I'm using the white kindle adaptor from my keyboard kindle, not the new super fast one. I've also tried my iphone adaptor as it has the same input/output, but the same the same thing happens.

It doesn't seem to make any difference if I wiggle the cable, I've also tried using another cable (I had a replacement kindle sent for another problem), so I think the problem is the kindle itself.

I'm worried it will get worse with time.

I had this exact problem and called kindle CS the white kindle adapter is not compatible with the kindle fire hd. If you want to use a kindle wall adapter you must purchase the new one. You can charge via the USB on your computer but this will take a ridiculous amount of time.

I am having this same issue with attempting to charge my kindle via a usb on my mac or through a wall adapter that I typically use for my iphone. More than a little peeved that these don't come ready to be charged by any means without purchasing an adapter. Kindle Fire HD 7", Dolby Audio, Dual-Band Wi-Fi, 16 GB - Includes Special Offers

I have been using my old white kindle keyboard adapter with my new fire HD. I have not noticed any problems. It charges fully. Does seem to drop off fast though. I have been watching movies with it plugged in. Can there be any problems in doing this? I am planning on buying a power fast adapter, just can;t believe they make you spend more money just to be able to charge your device

But that's the thing, they don't make you spend more money. You have a choice of buying one or using one you already have. If they included one and charged more for it, then everyone would be paying for something they might not need.

this is what I've noticed in the day I've had my kindle fire. turning it off and charging it= no charge. when it's in sleep mode= no charge. using the usb cord it came with and plugging it into my pc= no charge. using my android charger=intermitten charging when it goes to sleep. I changed the settings on my screen lockout time to NEVER while charging= fully charged kindle fire : ) yay....
