Wifi is on and connected but "Sync to Furthest Page Read" is always grayed out. My other Kindles and Kindle apps have no problem syncing -- any ideas?

My husbands kindle paperwhite has lost wifi connection. No problem with our wifi as my kindle is working and other items are linked. Have tried and tried to reconnect but no luck. Any ideas?

Are you in an opened book? Not on the home screen?

Turn wi-fi OFF on your PW (airplane mode ON).

Reboot the router by unplugging it (not just turning it off) for a few minutes. Plug it back in, and let it do its thing.

Then do a hard reset on the PW by holding the power button for a full 30 seconds. Then turn on wi-fi and see if you can connect.

Have you done a hard reset of the PW? And you're sure Sync Page is "on" on your Manage Your Devices page?

How old is your router?

@bmag - Is this a Kindle book from Amazon or is it a book/document from another source?

I tried the hard reset but it did not make a difference. On my Manage Your Devices page "Whispersync Device Synchronization" is set to "ON". As I mentioned, my other Kindles and my iPad have no problem syncing amongst themselves. On the Paperwhite on the device home screen "Sync and Check for Items" works and I have no trouble transferring books onto the device. It is just the "Sync to Furthest Page Read" within any book that is not working.

Hi Ann:

All my Kindle books are from Amazon.

Hmm, in that case, you might want to go ahead and contact customer support for help with this. Click the "Help" link at the top of any Amazon page, then press the "Contact Us" button. The phone or chat option would be best, as they can troubleshoot with you in real-time.

I too have had this problem. My Whispersync Devices Synch" is set for on. I repeatedly sync my pages when reading on my Paperwhite, and I always do a hard reset at the end of the evening when I am done reading. More often than not, however, the furthest page read from my Paperwhite is not synched to my other devices.

I recently started having the same problem, did you ever find a solution?

I bought an iPad and it solved the problem immediately. ;-) In my experience, the Apple Kindle applications work much better and more consistently than the Kindle devices themselves.

Having the same issue. I've rebooted, updated the software, WIFI is on and connected, Whispersync is on all devices, but no matter what I do, my PW will not sync with any of the other devices. The SYNC TO FURTHEST PAGE READ is always greyed out on the PW. Frustrating to say the least, especially because this issue is relatively new. My PW did not always have this problem.

Is the device sync option somehow disabled here at Amazon? Check your "Manage Your Devices" to make sure it's on. (Edit: I mean I know you said it is...)

I have found a solution (at least it seems to work for me :) go to the home screen, settings, reading options and turn on annotations. I had mine turned off because as far as I remember from previous kindles annotations was something I didn't want on, but if you read the description of the option it says it syncs the last page. Hope this helps some people! Just happy mine is syncing now *whew*

Keepsbooks says:
I've been struggling with this problem since I bought my Paperwhite 2nd Gen - When in doubt, check the 'directions' I guess. Here's what I found in Help Docs that actually did work:

Note: By default, your book will sync to the most recent page or location you are reading across all devices and reading apps registered to your Amazon account. If you'd like to sync to the furthest page read, select the Sync to the Furthest Page Read option.

"While reading [the book you want to sync], tap the Menu menu icon [the 3 horizontal lines on the top right], and then tap Sync to the Furthest Page Read."
