Janine - To reset your Kindle Touch's passcode type in: 111222777

***WARNING***
This will restore it to factory defaults.

You will lose:

*Any sideloaded personal documents that are not archived in the Cloud
*Memorized wi-fi networks

-AND-

*You will have to register your device again.

You will not lose any software updates.

I keep getting a blue screen and I can't get to my books.???????

P. Sauer - You're in the FreeTime app. Swipe down from the top, select Exit and enter the parental controls password that was set up when you entered FreeTime.

To reset your Parental Controls password without resetting to Factory Defaults:

Go to http://amazon.com/manageyourkindle and then click on Manage Your Devices and deregister your Fire.

Then go to Settings (swipe from the top) and Sync. Then tap on More > My Account and register it again.

This will retain any sideloaded content or items you've downloaded from websites, emails, etc. However, it will remove your Amazon purchased content, which you will need to download again from the Cloud.

I have a kindle fire hd, was locked out, I held down the power button for 15 seconds, that reset the device , was able to restart, has happened more than once.

Marvin - You're replying to a post from March. This is a zombie thread. And having a frozen Fire is not the same as forgetting the lockscreen password on a Touch.

LOO LOO says:
You don't need to deregister your device to get out of the FreeTime login screen. This happened to me and I was instructed to enter a login and a password - any login and password - 5-6 times and then the device will prompt you to reset your login.

Try it and see if it works for you like it did for me. Make sure to write down the new password you set.

When I went through this, I deactivated my FreeTime and haven't used it since.

In reply to an earlier post on Oct 27, 2013, 9:19:25 AM PDT
That resets it to factory defaults and wipes out everything. The deregistering saves any sideloaded content. It's the preferred method of resetting your parental controls password.

LOO LOO says:
It doesn't reset it to factory default settings. It only relates to FreeTime. It has nothing to do with the settings of the device, itself. I was on the phone with the Amazon CS when I did this, following his instructions as I went. It got me out of FreeTime and I was able to access my device again and deactivate FreeTime.

I have one question if I forgot my kindle fire's password what do I do without erasing all of my pictures, music, games, and everything else????

In reply to an earlier post on Apr 3, 2014, 2:23:43 PM PDT
I have put in another password six or seven times. It will reset your password. It worked for me.

Artist says:
There's no way not to wipe the Kindle. As a security feature, in case someone finds or steals your Fire, if it is reset it by entering an incorrect password multiple times, all of your content is deleted.

You don't have to establish new accounts to reregister your Kindle!

I realize that you're trying to be helpful, but if you don't understand how things are actually done, it's best not to confuse people who are looking for help.

Lplady says:
Did you read this thread? Go to the Manage Your Content and Devices page On this web page, and deregister your Fire and then reregister it. That will keep your photos, non-amazon content. Or call customer service and enter the wrong password repeatedly, it might delete your device to Factory Settings, lose all non-amazon content.

I have not done either of these.

I have a kindle fire and that password reset code isn't working. Am I doing something wrong?

Sfharmony@yahoo.com

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 7, 2014, 3:00:55 PM PST
That's because that password reset code is for the Kindle Touch, NOT the Fire.

Yes! Take down your email!
