I have installed the Windows 8 Kindle app but there are a couple of problems, one is that it is not getting a send to Kindle email address and it is grayed out when trying to use the send to device for books in my library. I can purchase books for it and it only shows the books I have purchased in the cloud section.
I have deregistered it and reinstalled the app but it still has these problems. My other 2 Kindle apps work fine.

Okay this is a question, how do I fix it? Other people have had similar issues. I'll try Amazon support too if that helps resolve the issue which may then help others too.

When I am buying a book there is the toggle to determine where to send it .... I have the option for MoniKat's Windows 8 in my drop down. Do you have that option? Did you register your windows 8 app to the correct amazon account?

MarkoAlbury says:
Yes but it is greyed so not selectable which is strange as I had no trouble setting it up for my iPad and Galaxy phone. When I log into my account on Win 8 it picks up only the books that I purchased through the Kindle store not the ones I have sent to my Kindle's through send to kindle on my computer. Also the Win 8 did not get a send to Kindle email either. I have deregistered and uninstalled and reinstalled but still no luck. Also the send to Kindle on my PC does not have Win 8 Kindle as a device.

My biggest disappointment with the Windows 8 Kindle relationship is the inability to copy and paste to my PC. I used that a lot with Windows XP and now that is gone completely. I have not heard of a patch out there to fix this. Anyone know of a fix for this?

MarkoAlbury - That app (along with Kindle for PC and Kindle for Mac) don't have Send to Kindle email addresses. You can't use the Personal Documents Services on them.

Thanks for letting me, that is disappointing.

So, is Kindle reader available on Japanese Microsoft store? Or, is there a workaround to get it onto my Win-8?

I have windows 8 japanese but want to dowmload kindle english reader but cant. There seems no kindle app in the japanese microsoft store, and it seems to block me from getting to the english microsoft store.
How can I download the Kindle app to my windows 8 PC?

can you sync your games from your kindle onto my windows 8 laptop

Kelly, no. E-ink Kindle games only work on certain e-ink Kindles. Kindle Fire games require the Android operating system and only work on certain Android devices.

How can I get the kindle app for windows 8 to work ? I have uninstalled, re-installed, registered, and de-registered and each time it says I have no titles in my library despite having over 1000 on my kindle keyboard device.

Exactly my issue but I believe that this version of Kindle is not fully compatible with Windows 8 yet despite a recent update. Anyone from Amazon like to explain why?

So you're saying that even though my new laptop uses Windows 8, I could still use the previous version, "Kindle for PC" on it?

That would be great, since I'm finding all kinds of problems and limitations with Kindle Win8. It always freezes up when I switch from reading a book to going to the library and back, it won't do searches within books, I can't get the Kindle icon onto my tool bar, etc.

Do I have to uninstall Kindle for Windows 8 first?

In reply to an earlier post on May 3, 2013, 8:58:42 AM PDT
You can have both the Windows 8 App plus the Kindle for PC program installed on the same Windows 8 computer. I already had the app installed and registered on my Surface Pro. I downloaded and installed the Kindle for PC program (the Win 7/XP version) and it successfully installed, registered and ran. In fact I ran both at the same time no problems. :)

Wow, thanks for that! I loved reading with the ease of searching things up along the way. Always forgetting who some character or detail introduced at the very beginning was---search on the name---abracadabra, there's the explanation. Plus I'm finding all kinds of ways that Kin-Win8 is unstable.

I really appreciate your taking the time to let me know, Thomas.

I wish I could get the kindle app to copy and paste on Windows 8. It will work on most ebooks but not the kindle books.

I tried and tried without success to get the Kindle icon on my Windows 8 toolbar. It's an annoyance to have to exit my browser every time I want to go back and forth between Mozilla and the book I'm reading. And as you said, with Kindle for Win8, you can't copy a phrase or name to paste into a browser search window. It diminishes the pleasure that makes reading an ebook more satisfying than print.

If you are talking about the Win 8 version, it's a Metro app. They don't show up on the toolbar. To switch use the Windows logo key‌ +Tab. You can use that to go both ways.. from the desktop to the metro app/s, and from a metro app to the desktop. Whatever programs you have running on the desktop remain running so you can use this to freely switch back and forth.

Thanks for that tip, Thomas. I was unaware of the concept of Metro Apps so I was at a loss to understand why I couldn't get the Kindle icon on the tool bar. Still seems more straightforward that way, especially since it was no problem in previous Windows set ups.

Are there any work-arounds for the other functionalities offered in earlier Kindle for PC, but not in Kindle for Win8?

Update: I did indeed download the prior Kindle version, Kindle for PC, onto my new laptop running Windows 8. No problems at all registering it or getting it into action. It even has the feature for organizing books into collections, which was not available on the Kindle for PC version I had on my old laptop. The only thing I seem to have lost is the "Most Recent" sequence that was on that PC. I haven't figured out what the logic behind the current "Most Recent" sequence is, but it won't be a big problem in the long run.

Thanks again, Thomas. You really made my day.

MarkoAlbury says:
The PC version of the Kindle program has the same problem , it does not get a send to email address and you are not able to deliver books in your library to the device unless the books are bought through the Kindle store. So this does not solve my original issue.

I've got a Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga and I've had nothing but problems. I've tried a dozen times to sign in
