I'm thinking of trading in my paperwhite for credit and then getting the new version paperwhite If I do this do I need to delete the content and then deregister or does amazon do this when they get the unit?

Personally I'd reset it to factory defaults before sending it in.

Amazon doesn't do trade ins. The trade in program is from a 3rd party vendor. I would recommend selling it yourself because you would get a lot more for it. I recommend resetting it to factory settings before sending it in.
