How many of you had a mood ring in the 70's? :)

Mood rings

The History of Mood Rings

Moods rings were invented in 1975 by two New York Inventors Josh Reynolds and Maris Ambats. However, Marvin Wernick, claimed he developed the rings a decade earlier. Regardless of who invented the mood ring, they were a popular fad in the 1970s and now mood rings and mood jewelry are as popular as ever.

The theory behind the mood ring is that your emotional state will be revealed by the corresponding colors of the mood ring.

How Mood Rings Work?
Mood Rings contain thermotropic liquid crystals inside the stone or the band of the mood ring. These liquid crystals are able to show different colors at different temperatures. The liquid crystals in modern mood jewelry are usually made from a flat strip of liquid crystals with a protective coating. These crystals react to changes in temperature by twisting. The twisting changes their molecular structure, which alters the wavelengths of light or color that are reflected or absorbed. When the temperature of the liquid crystals changes so will their color and this is how mood rings work.

Do Mood Rings Work / Do they really show your emotions?
Your mood is correlated with your body temperature. A person's normal body temperature is 82°F (28°C). When you are stressed or cold blood is directed to the internal organs and away from the skin and the mood ring will turn a darker color. If you are happier or feeling passionate the crystal will twist in another direction and start to change color as your body temperature increases. Therefore there is a correlation with mood and your body temperature so to some degree a mood ring can show your emotion.

There are other factors why the mood ring will change that are unrelated to mood such as such as just finishing a work out or having a hot bath. Mood Rings and Mood Jewelry can't tell your emotional state exactly but what they can do is provide you with a beautiful color changing ring; a guide to your mood and have a lot of fun deciding which `mood' you are in.

Mood rings were a short-lived fad of the mid-1970s (like the pet rock) and were especially popular with young girls. In a 1976 Peanuts comic strip, Peppermint Patty gets so angry at Charlie Brown that her mood ring explodes.

Mood Ring Color Chart Meanings

Here are some of the most common mood ring color chart meanings and the associated emotions. The most common color for a mood ring to turn is between green and blue.

Fear, Nothing, Angst, Serious, Overworked, Stormy, Depressed, Intense

And thanks for getting us started.

Thank you for the start, Susan. I always wanted a mood ring, but never could find one to fit - my fingers were too small. I've been still working on my proposal - my coworker went over it for hours, and then after work I put in an additional 5 hours, and it's still not done. I must be orange!

@ Read for Life
So glad that you popped in again on yesterday's thread, you got me searching for Jodi Picoult books, I have always been drawn to any of her books and they are, sadly, never free for me, as kindle versions :-(
since I am a member of audible I went and listened to the sample of The Storyteller and found that it is already on my list of books to read/listen to, so thanks to you and Suze and Sally for reminding me.
I do hope that things are going better for you in your life and with your health this year.

Shtetl - the story of a life no more (as told from the hereafter) (The Jewish History Novel Series) by Othniel J. Seiden
Shtetl is an historical Jewish novel. It is only about what life was like in my shtetl, a small Jewish village in Eastern Europe. At one time, there were many shtetls in Eastern Europe, but they and the lives led in them are no more.

And I am the last remembered patriarch of the family in this story.

I began my physical life on earth in the year 1820. The shtetl ... the little village, in Poland, where I lived my entire life, came into existence, maybe three centuries earlier. In all that time, little changed for either of us, except maybe the misery got worse. We both, the shtetl, and I, ended our time on earth together.

So you might ask how it is, if I am no more that my story will get told?

Well, when you are here ... here in what you call the "hereafter" or "the afterlife"... but God forbid, it shouldn't happen to you 'till you're a hundred and twenty ... you'll understand it all...

Thanks for a great start. Yes, I had a mood ring. I think it was black most of the time. I remember thinking there must be something wrong with it.

From my wish list:

Color Tour (A Ray Elkins Thriller)
It's a tranquil October morning in northwest lower Michigan, a rural paradise of cherry orchards, blue lakes, and sandy shorelines. The serenity of the day -- and the season -- is shattered when an elderly woman walking her dogs along the beach stumbles upon the bodies of a brutally murdered couple. Sheriff Ray Elkins returns from his debut in the bestselling "Summer People" to track down the elusive killer of a vivacious and spirited young teacher. His search takes him into the dark side of an elite private school -- and into his own long-forgotten past. As Elkins unravels the mystery, the hunter becomes the hunted and one intrigue leads to another in this page-turner.

I do hope that you have a chance of having a relaxing weekend after your busy week.

Posted on Mar 22, 2014, 4:51:47 AM PDT
My mood ring was also black most of the time . . . but I've always had cold hands (and a warm heart :)!) and very slim fingers. My ring finger measures 4.5 now, and I weigh at least 50 pounds more than I did then, while 6 is, or was, the average ring size. And, yes, I was very, very thin in the 70s. I weighed less than 100 pounds when I finished high school.

Today, it would also be black . . . because I wouldn't be able to get it on! If it worked, though, it would be blue. I'm happy enough. Time-out will continue for the horses for the foreseeable future, until they learn to trust me when they are apart. Remedial etiquette lessons also continue. I can't control bad manners in other people, but I absolutely will not tolerate them in my animals.

Weatherwise, we are expecting another beautiful day with highs in the 70s to low 80s . . . but our current forecast includes a 100 percent chance of rain Sunday, a 50 percent chance of rain Monday (either of which will wash out riding/training) and lows back in the 30s. This is not nearly normal Gulf Coast weather!

I keep forgetting to take my new medicine, but today I need to refill my pill box so at last I should give it a try.

Mieko*, I can't imagine why you lurked so much for so long, but I am so glad you have been posting. I think we are all enjoying you.

I also think my mother taught some of those absent children. Or their parents. Or perhaps I should say, she attempted to teach some of them? Some of those excuses sounded very familiar, and she lived (and taught) in Mississippi for many, many years.

Hello, everyone, No mood ring here, but would be blue if I had one. Spent most of yesterday outside, just enjoying it. today back to 53 and windy. O F- would love to see your spring flowers. worked in florist all during high school and in 50's everything was done by hand-potted plants, corsages etc. to this day I can't be around gardenias they came in bx of 25 and we would make corsages. the smell just took over the shop. now days I love the wildflowers best but cattle keep fence roll clean, so kids will stop and pick some wild flowers for me.
