Got my Kindle Fire HD 8.9 wifi version today. I can't believe how SLOW it is compaired to my old Kindle Fire!!!! I thought it was supposed to be FASTER! And I'm not just talking about getting on wifi. The games are slow, the whole thing locked up twice, and the front screen went haywire with icons and book titles scrambled!!!!!! Has anyone else had this problem?

Nope. Mine works great.

You may have a defective device.

Just got mine today and it's moving quite nimbly, better than I'd hoped, and no lockups. Did you let it do the pending update yet?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 17, 2012, 12:54:45 PM PST
I got mine yesterday and I think you need the updates or just a new one.

Any problems streaming Prime video? I can get sound but no picture.

Reboot your router and see what happens.

Reboot the router to fix connectivity issues.

Mine is doing fine also. My wireless modem is only about 6 months old. I don't know if you rmodem could be the problem or not?

Got mine today and played with it for hours; it was fast, and no glitches at all. I love it.

So I have my kindle fire 8.9 and want to print an e-mail. I can't believe there is no way to do this. I have a print client installed and can print most anything else.

What am I missing here?

Doug says:
mine is WAY slower the my regular Kindle. Websites often time out and the same ones come up fine on the old one. Very frustrating, I think I will send it back.

I upgraded from the original Fire to the Fire HD 8.9. I have not had the same problems as you. Everything works fine. It is about the same speed at the original. I have noticed a lag at times. But I have not had a lockup or scrambled screen. Sounds like you might have a defective product.

When I;m using there web browser 'Silk' I had problems where the Kindle browser and or the kindle would lock up. I did found something on the internet said that this one of the mail problem with there browser and a lot a people are looking to add Chrome. Anyone know how?

One thing that I do missed that is on my other devices is 'Flash'. Does any know how to install it?

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 21, 2012, 2:37:26 PM PST
To install Flash and a Flash Enabled Browser: To install Flash: (You have to have a Flash compatible browser in order to install Flash. You can't install it under Silk.)

Do the following on the Fire HD itself: Under settings on the Fire, enable installation of Applications from unknown sources.

Install ES File Explorer: ES File Explorer

Install Dolphin. The most current version of Dolphin won't work. You need the 8.5.1 version. You get Dolphin here: The file downloads. You'll get a Notification that it did.

Launch ES File Explorer, and look in the Downloads folder. You'll see the Dolphin icon...tap it to install.

You get Flash here:

Follow the same steps you used when installing Dolphin HD to install Flash.

clearing the history and cache periodically in Silk seems to help significantly with the tab not responding errors. At least it does for me.

edited to resemble English.

Mine is also very slow. Can't believe it. It freezes ALL the time and then Kindle Fire will flash up on the screen like it's restarting for no reason. Very disappointed. The touchscreen is not responding well at all either especially when typing something. I'm thinking of sending mine back too. I don't think it's my router. It does it when I'm on other wireless networks too. :(

mine is slow too. Switching some of the Silk settings in the applications menu helps for some browsing. changing automatic to mobile may help. also i found google sometimes works faster than bing. but any combo is much slower than my original kindle. a broadband speed test reveals the hd runs from 6 to 10 times slower than the old kindle. i really like the tablet but the speed is very frustrating. i have decided to return mine.

I had some of the same issues when I first got my HD. A couple of suggestions that may work, since it did for me: First turn off accelerated browsing in the settings and second, reset your router. Since I have done those those two things mine is working very well.

Me too, M. Fraley...It's not my router and tonight I could barely make a move on the thing without apps crashing and so forth. VERY frustrating. It's doing it more and more lately.

I agree with you it worked fine at first but now it locks up at least 2 a day and its slow

i found out that if the kindle hd doesnt have about 4Gb of free space then it preforms like crap, but after awhile that speed boost that you get from deleting data will be for not. right now its still horribly slow. i think the kindle does page swapping which is why it slowed down a lot after putting movies on it, also i think that i never really closes out the programs and that active program this in the menu still does not shut down the programs or it doesnt see all the programs that are actively running

JSR says:
Same problem here. Ran great at first. Now slow as molasses on non-network tasks such as moving to the home screen from a task, or just waiting for the unlock screen to turn on when the power button is pushed. I am going to do a factory reset and see what happens.
