Low on storage message

What have you been removing? Videos are the largest thing on your Kindle, so if you have a few videos it may be full no matter how many books or small apps you remove.

Right, I should have been more specific. I have no videos, no pictures and no audio files on it. Just some books and apps. I had a whole bunch of photos on it awhile ago and didn't get this same message. Now, no matter what I remove, it still says it has less than 10% storage remaining.

Have you tried a reset? Make sure it's charged, then remove the charger. Press and hold the power button for a full 30 seconds, ignoring any message on the screen. Release the button, then wait a couple seconds.

Then, press it again once, and walk away. Let it do its thing; it should reset to the Carousel/Home screen.

You can try a cleaner app such as Clean Master - Free Optimizer, but obviously not if you can't download the app! If the reset doesn't shake things into place, you can try starting to delete unused apps.

Then start deleting USED apps; you can always get them back, later. Your last-ditch effort would be to do a factory reset, which wipes it clean and you start all over again.

That's a drastic step, but if the device isn't useful to you now, what do you have to lose (besides the time & effort to set the Fire back up)?

I would recommend that you call support. They will either help you, or you will learn that you have a defective unit. Is it still within warranty?

If you work your way through the Help menu, it will eventually get you to a place where you can request contact through email, chat or phone. If you want phone, you put in your number and they will call you back. I've done this twice, and both times my phone rang immediately. Be ready.

"I don't know how they do it." Computers. You can connect a computer to a phone system nowadays, you know. In fact, they've been doing that for about 30 years.

Don't forget that on the HDX you also have the Mayday button to contact Customer Services. I found that very useful when I had WiFi available but no phone.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I just got off the phone with Amazon help. We tried factory resetting the HDX but it just got stuck on erasing, so they said they're sending me a new one. She said this is a known issue with the HDX that they're working on. Inconvenient, but they're standing behind the product and sending a new one. Thanks again. And yes, the callback came in about a second!
