Has anyone heard anything about a new kindle coming out? I was at Best Buy and Target today and they both were super low on all the models and sold out of the wi fi/3G touch with no ads.

Plenty of rumours, but no confirmation from Amazon.

I thought I remember reading a while back that whey would release a nicer fire type kindle. More expensive but more capable to compete in the tablet market even better. Though I just read that the Fire has over 50% the android market, which is pretty good, but then there's still the ipad...

That could've just been rumor and speculation, because that was around a month ago.

There was an article posted on the forum referring to the new kindle that will have a front lit screen. Not sure when it will be released or even if it will be although the article specified later this year. (I think the article was on a blog called Tech Crunch or something like that.)

There has been plenty of speculation about either a new model of the Fire or a new "glow-type" eInk model, but Amazon has said exactly nothing about any new Kindle models so it is all guessing and/or wishful thinking.

It's pretty safe to assume, there will always be a new model of Kindle in the works. Apple and Amazon own the two ecosystems that will own the world for the immediate future. Amazon's Eink readers are best in class. B&N's are very good, but they don't come close to the content that both Amazon and Apple control.

It really is a battle between Apple and Amazon. But Apple has a distraction, they want to sell great computers, too! Amazon just wants to sell content. And everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I think Amazon's model works better.

I agree- I have the iPad 2 and for long periods of reading my eyes do get tired, so that is why I am looking at the kindle as a device strictly for reading. Plus I miss being able to download direct from my device - on the iPad I have to go to and make the purchase and then it downloads on the iPad. Thanks for your response. I will probably buy the kindle, was just curious if there's been talk of new ones coming out. I don't recall when the current models were updated.

The EInk Kindles can't be beat for simply reading a great book, and at a reasonable price. I have a Kindle Keyboard, and a Kindle Fire. My husband has an IPad2. I actually bought my husband's IPad as a gift for him, it was what he wanted.

If I needed to pare down to one device? I'm a reader, so I would want a Kindle. One of the eInks. My eyes get tired reading on my Fire for a long time, just like your eyes get tired reading on the iPad. It's fine for reading for a relatively short time. Reading on my Kindle 3/Keyboard, is just like reading a paper book, when I used to do that.

Answered this question about this time last year, with they come out in time for Christmas. Bufo pointed out that wasn't always true. The Fire was announced on 28 Sep and released 15 Nov.

Hope mine arrives in time our for our post-Thanksgiving cruise again.

Quite frankly I would like to see nicer models from Amazon. I find the Nook e-readers more attractive. I find the Kindle to be a bit masculine in form. I'd also like to see a backlight screen since I have an Amazon account and don't intend on changing it.

What are Nook dressers?

My Kindle has a pretty pink and white skin. Looks very pretty and girly.

Yeah, who cares about functionality? It's all about the bling.

My Fire has bothered my eyes since I've been using it as an ereader. My house is dark so I want a front lit one. The new kindle ereader is supposed to be lit but Im running out of patience waiting on it. Very tempted to buy the nook glow. I will give this month to amazon and if no new ereader Im getting the glow.

I think B&N rushed the Nook Glow to market. The screen is very easily damaged. I hope Amazon is taking the time to get it right.
